G l o s s a r y
Active An alterable layer or mask is active until it has been applied to the photo.
Albums Albums organize and format related groups of photos and captions that you can
share with others, post on the Internet, or print. You can select different Album formats.
Apply Use Apply to make your changes to the photo. Once you have applied an effect,
layer, or masks, you can't undo/redo changes, However, applied changes aren't saved
until you choose Save.
Auto enhancement Auto enhance corrects bad exposure, fading, and color casts. It works
best on photos that contain black and white.
Auto scrolling See Panning.
Backgrounds An object that can be dragged behind images, leaving the other images on
top of it.
Blur An effect that you can apply to an entire photo, or to parts of a photo using the
brush tools.
Brightness Brightness describes a color's lightness or darkness, regardless of its hue or
saturation.
Brushes The tools used to apply effects to a photo are collectively referred to as brushes.
They consist of a large and small brush, and the Pencil, Eraser, Water Drop, Icicle, and
Magic Mask.
Calendars You can create calendars using your photos and predefined calendar layouts.
Click the Compose tab and click Help to learn how.
Channels Channels are component colors that a computer uses to display color, typically
red, green, and blue.
Cloning Cloning is what happened to Dolly the sheep, but is also the ability to paint on
an image with another part of an image.
Color cast A color cast occurs when a color overlays an entire image, often an effect of
taking a photo in the wrong light with a certain film.
