Configuration under NetWare

Using the Printer under a NetWare Environment
NetWare Server

(1) Overview of the NetWare Environment

Normally, printing to this printer is accomplished by sending the data to be printed directly from the Client
computer to the Printer Server, but this may also be accomplished under a NetWare Server environment. A
simple explanation of the system configuration under NetWare and the flow of data is as follows:
Data is first sent from the Client computer to the NetWare Server where it is stored in a queue. Depending
upon the version of the Queue Server software installed in the Printer Server, the Printer Server will poll the
NetWare Server and copy the data in the NetWare Server queue. It will then process the data using an RIP
(Raster Image Processor) and then send that data to the printer.
* It is possible to have the data to be printed sent directly from a NetWare Client to the Printer Server
without going through the NetWare Server – regardless of whether the following NetWare configuration is
carried out or not – by setting the appropriate TCP/IP information and installing the Printer Driver in the
Client computer.
The configuration procedure for a NetWare Environment differs depending upon whether the Server is
running NetWare 3.xx or 4.xx.
