OPERATION This section provides basic operating instructions, including how to start and stop the vehicle, driving skills and precautions when driving on different roadways. Even if you've ridden other on-road vehicles, you must take time to familiarize yourself with how the vehicle operates. Practice in flat and wide areas until you are familiar with this all-terrain vehicle.
OPERATION KNOW YOUR RIDING AREA Familiarize yourself with all laws and regulations concerning the operation of this vehicle in your area. Respect the environment in which you ride your vehicle. Find out where the designated riding areas are by contacting your dealer, a local riding club, or local officials.
OPERATION NEW OPERATOR DRIVING PROCEDURES Before operating this vehicle, read and understand the owner's manual and all warning and instruction labels. Perform a pre-ride check. Do not carry goods during this period. Do not carry passengers until you have two hours experience with driving this vehicle.
OPERATION • Avoid sharp turns • Don’t turn when stepping on the accelerator pedal. • Don’t swerve when driving the vehicle. • Drive according to your skills, conditions and terrain. • Do not jump with the vehicle or perform any driving stunts. DRIVING WITH PASSENGERS Finish the New operator driving procedures on page 64.

OPERATION DRIVING IN REVERSE Follow these precautions when operating in reverse: Always check for obstacles or people behind the vehicle. Apply the throttle lightly. Never open the throttle suddenly. Ride slowly. Apply the brakes lightly for stopping. Avoid sharp turns. DRIVING OVER OBSTACLES Follow these precautions when operating over obstacles: Before operating in a new area, check for obstacles.
OPERATION DRIVING UPHILL Braking and handling are greatly affected when operating in hilly terrain. Improper procedure could cause loss of control or rollover. Whenever traveling uphill, follow these precautions: Always move the 4x4 switch (if equipped) to 4x4WD position before ascending or descending a hill. Always travel straight uphill.
OPERATION DRIVING ON A SIDEHILL (SIDEHILLING) Driving on a sidehill is not recommended. Improper procedure could cause loss of control or overturn. Avoid crossing the side of any hill unless absolutely necessary. If crossing a sidehill is unavoidable, follow these precautions: Slow down.
OPERATION ENGINE BREAK-IN GUIDELINES Engine break-in period is the 300 km of operation. New brakes will not reach their maximum efficiency until they are fully broken-in.
OPERATION PRE-RIDE INSPECTION Perform a pre-ride inspection before each ride to detect any potential problem that could occur during operation. The pre-ride inspection will help you monitor component wear and deterioration before they become a problem. Correct any problems that you discover to reduce the risk of a breakdown or accident.
OPERATION HAULING CARGO Your vehicle has been designed to carry or tow specific capacity. Reduce speed and allow a greater distance for braking when carrying cargo. Loads should be centered and carried as low as possible in the cargo box. For stability on rough or hilly terrain, reduce both speed and cargo weight.
Page 82
OPERATION WARNING SECURE LOAD BEFORE RIDE. Unsecured load can create unstable operating conditions, which could result in loss of control of the vehicle. OPERATE ONLY WITH STABLE AND SAFELYARRANGED LOADS. When handling off-centered loads that cannot be centered, securely fasten the load and operate with extra caution. HEAVY LOADS CAN CAUSE BRAKING AND CONTROL PROBLEMS.
OPERATION Always read and understand the load distribution warnings on warning labels on your vehicle and in this manual. Never exceed the maximum capacities specified for your vehicle. Regular maintenance can prevent carbon accumulation, lack of maintenance will reduce engine performance. WARNING Make sure the exhaust pipes are cool. Ensure that there are no combustible materials in the area when maintaining the vehicle.
Reinstall the spark arrestor, all washers and bolts. NOTICE If damaged, replacement exhaust gasket should be readily available from Segway Powersports parts and service dept. ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) The power steering is active when the engine is running. NOTICE When the key is turned to the "ON"...
MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE BATTERY This vehicle is equipped with a sealed MF battery, which requires little maintenance. It is not required to check the electrolyte or to add distilled water to the battery. Due to natural discharge and power consumption of some electrical equipment, battery will discharge gradually even when the vehicle is not in use.
MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE BATTERY REMOVAL To remove the battery first remove the seat and perform the following procedure. Turn the vehicle power Off before removing battery. NOTICE If the electrolyte spills, immediately wash it off with a dedicated a contact cleaner to prevent damage to the vehicle. The battery is located under the passenger seat in standard cab vehicles, and in the middle of the rear seat in Crew cab vehicles.
