6.
Insert the new SEC cartridge/heat sink assembly
into the system board connector.
Press the SEC cartridge release latches outward until
they snap into position. Orient the assembly with the
heat sink facing the left side of the chassis, and press
the SEC cartridge firmly into its connector until it is
fully seated and the latches snap into place. You
must use up to 25 pounds of force to fully seat the
SEC cartridge in its connector. Install or replace the
two large thumbscrews that secure the heat sink to
the system board.
7.
Replace the airflow shroud over the processor(s).
Fit the mouth of the shroud into the alignment slot on
the left side of the fan and between the fan and the
power supply bracket on the right. Then squeeze
both pairs of tabs on the top of the shroud and lower
it down until the clips on the bottom of the shroud
engage onto the top of the processor heat sink(s).
8.
If necessary, change the processor speed jumper
setting (see Figure B-1 to locate system board
jumpers).
The processor speed jumper should be set for the
installed microprocessor's rated internal speed. For
example, for a 266-megahertz (MHz) Intel Pentium
II processor, a jumper plug should be installed on the
pins labeled "266MHZ." (See Appendix B, "Hard-
ware Configuration Features," for more information
on the jumpers.)
9.
Rotate the power supply back into position, mak-
ing sure that the securing tab snaps into place.
10. Replace the computer cover, reconnect your com-
puter and peripherals to their power sources, and
turn them on.
As the system boots, it detects the presence of the
new processor and automatically changes the system
configuration information in the System Setup pro-
gram. If you installed a second microprocessor, the
following message is displayed:
Second processor detected
11. Enter the System Setup program, and confirm
that the top line in the system data area correctly
identifies the installed processor(s).
See Chapter 3, "Using the System Setup Program."

12. If you installed a second microprocessor and your
system is running Windows NT 4.0, reinstall the
operating system.
See your Windows NT documentation for
instructions.
When you reinstall Windows NT 4.0, the operating
system detects the second microprocessor.
13. Run the Dell Diagnostics to verify that the new
microprocessor is operating correctly.
See your Diagnostics and Troubleshooting Guide for
information on running the diagnostics and trouble-
shooting any problems that may occur.
R
eplacing the System Battery
A 3.0-V CR2032 coin-cell battery installed on the system
board maintains system configuration, date, and time
information in a special section of memory.
The operating life of the battery can extend up to ten
years. The battery may need replacing if an incorrect time
or date is displayed during the boot routine along with a
message such as:
Time-of-day not set — please run SETUP
program
or
Invalid configuration information —
please run SETUP program
or
Strike the F1 key to continue,
F2 to run the setup utility
To determine whether the battery needs replacing, reenter
the time and date through the System Setup program and
exit the program properly to save the information. Turn
off and unplug your system for a few hours, and then
plug in and turn on your system. Enter the System Setup
program. If the date and time are not correct in the Sys-
tem Setup program, replace your battery.
You can operate your system without a battery; however,
without a battery, the system configuration information
maintained by the battery is erased if the system is
unplugged or alternating current (AC) power is lost. In
