You will be able to explain what tools and equipment are required for assembly and disassembly of the device. You will be able to complete repairs and the required quality control checks/calibrations following your repair.

Hardware Components

Removable Parts

Galaxy A13 5G has multiple removable parts. Being able to identify the parts and understand their functions will assist you in diagnostics and repair of the device.

  • Main Printed Board Assembly (PBA)
  • Sub PBA
  • Components
  • Rear Assembly
  • Battery
  • Back Cover

On-Cell Touch Assembly (OCTA)

Galaxy A13 5G OCTA includes the following:
On-Cell Touch Assembly (OCTA)

  • The Display Panel
  • The Front Glass and Laminate
  • Speaker
  • Battery

Main PBA

Front

Back

The Main PBA is the main board of the device. It contains the most essential components of the device such as:

  • Mobile Chipset
  • Main Camera
  • Built in Storage
  • Sub Microphone
  • SIM Tray Socket

Sub PBA

Back

Front

The Sub PBA is the secondary board of the device. It contains other essential components of the device such as:

  • Main Microphone
  • USB Type-C Interface (I/F) Connector
  • Sub FPCB Connection Ports
  • Headphone Jack

Components

There are a few smaller components on the Galaxy A13 5G that can be removed.

These are:

  • Main Cameras
  • Front Facing Camera
  • Vibrator Motor
  • mmWave antennas

Rear Assembly

The rear assembly rests between the back cover and circuitry boards. It will be broken down into two pieces.

Battery

The Battery is a Lithium-ion (Li-ion) cell and must be handled carefully. Improper removal can damage the cell, causing it to ignite and cause injury. Only hold the Battery from the center sides. Do not squeeze the Battery or use any unauthorized tools when handling it. Do not hold the Battery by its flex connector, as this can accidentally short the leads.
cautionNote: When handling the Battery, be careful not to puncture or damage it.

Back Cover

Galaxy A13 5G has a Back Cover that is clipped on to the frame. On the inner side of the Back Cover, is a flex connector that connects to the Main PBA.

Steps for Disassembly

You will disassemble the device in the following order:

  • Main PBA

    • Main Camera
    • Front Facing Camera
  • Sub PBA
  • Parts on the Bracket
    • mmWave Module Antennae
    • Vibrator Motor
    • Battery
  • Front Assembly (OCTA)

Before you begin to disassemble, make certain that all ESD precautions are met.
This includes:

  • Wearing an ESD Strap which has passed all required tests
  • Wearing Anti-static Gloves
  • Working over a grounded mat

Swollen Battery Precautions

A swollen Battery may cause a device to bulge.

  • Before disassembling the device, make certain that there are no signs of Battery swelling.
  • If the device has a swollen Battery,DO NOT heat the device.
  • Heating a device with a swollen Battery can cause further damage to the device and cause the Battery to ignite and cause injury
  • In the event of a swollen Battery, use Ethylene Alcohol to carefully separate and remove the Back Cover.

Eject the SIM tray

To prevent damage to the Main PBA, the SIM Tray must be removed before completing disassembly. The SIM Tray is located on the top of the device.

Remove the Back Cover

Disassembly Stick

The back cover will not be adhered to the frame. Instead, the back cover will be clipped to the device.
To remove the back cover, use the disassembly stick's tip to run along the sides of the device. This will allow the back cover to detach from the frame making it easy to remove.
DO NOT remove the back cover yet.

The back cover will be connected to the Main PBA via a flex connector. This connector must be disconnected before removing the back cover completely. Using the tweezers, remove the flex connector cover from the Main PBA and place to the side. With the connector head exposed, disconnect the flex connector and place the back cover to the side.

Removing The Screws

Using the screwdriver, remove 14 screws from the rear assembly.

To safely remove the rear assembly, use the tweezers to remove the top assembly. The entry point will be located at the top left. Once the top assembly is disconnected from the frame, remove and place to the side.
Remove the bottom piece by inserting the tweezers at the bottom right. One the bottom piece has been disconnected, remove and place to the side.
Once the rear of the device has been exposed, disconnect the battery lead and remove two (2) PBA screws. One from the Main PBA and the other from the Sub PBA.

Disconnecting the flex connectors

Before removing the Main and Sub PBA, disconnect the Main to LCD connector from the Main PBA. Next, disconnect and remove the Front Facing Camera and place it to the side with the lens facing up.
Work your down to the Sub PBA and disconnect the Sub PBA connector.

Removing the Main and Sub PBA

With nothing connecting to the Main PBA and Sub PBA, both PBAs can now be removed.
Gently lift the Main PBA from the frame and place to the side. Ensure that the Main Camera lens are facing up.
Remove the Sub PBA by gently lifting and placing it to the side.

Disconnecting the Camera from the Main PBA

To remove the Main Camera from the Main PBA, use the disassembly stick to disconnect the flex connectors.
Once disconnected, place the camera to the side facing up to prevent damage to the lens.

Removing the Vibrator Motor

To remove the Vibrator Motor from the frame, use the tweezers to insert the tip underneath the motor and gently lift. Once loose, remove and place to the side.

Removing the battery

Alcohol

If the Battery needs to be replaced, proper handling of the Battery is required.

  • Batteries are NOT to be reused and must be discarded as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • To remove the Battery, apply some Alcohol to the Swab and apply Alcohol around the edges of the Battery.
  • Allow between 30-60 seconds for the Alcohol to dissolve the adhesive holding the Battery to the OCTA

Battery Management

Using the Ceramic Scissors, cut the lead from the Battery and return to Samsung per U-Class procedure.

The device has now been disassembled

We have covered the disassembly process of the Galaxy A13 5G. At this point, all removable components have been removed.

Keep in mind:

  • In a repair scenario, only remove as much as required for the repair.
  • With the device disassembled, you can now move on to device assembly.
  • Follow proper process and tool usage to avoid damage

Assembly

Tools and Equipment

To ensure proper assemble without damage to the device, use the correct tools and equipment:

Steps of Assembly

You will assemble the device in the following order:

  • Battery
  • Parts on the Bracket
  • Vibrator Motor & mmWave Modules
  • Parts on the Main PBA
  • Main Camera & Front Facing Camera
  • Main PBA
  • Sub PBA
  • Rear Assembly
  • Back Cover

Installing the Battery

Installing the Battery
Remove the film from the rear of the battery and gently place it on the bracket.
Grab the battery press pads and place the device between the bottom and top pad ensuring the pad is covering the battery.
Slide the device in the press jib and press the battery for 5sec with 0.5 newtons of force.

Installing the Vibrator Motor


Gently place the Vibrator Motor on the frame and press down gently for a few seconds to secure it in place.

Installing the Main Camera



Align the Cameras onto the Main PBA without touching the lens and connect their connectors to the Main PBA. Turn the Main OBA sideways to ensure the connectors are flat and secure.

Installing the Main and Sub PBA


Align the Main PBA onto the bracket; make sure to move any flex cables out of the way to ensure it lays flush (flat) in its place.
Align the Sub PBA onto the bracket and insert starting with the interface port. Ensure the Sub PBA has a secured tightly.
Upon inserting the main and sub pba, use a screwdriver to insert (2) PBA screws. One for the Main PBA and the other for the Sub PBA.
Once the screws are in, begin by reconnecting the Front Facing Camera and all the flex connectors with the battery connector being the last.

Installing the Rear Assembly


Starting with the bottom piece, insert and ensure the bottom piece is clipped into place.
Once installed, insert the top piece in place ensuring the ensuring it is secured in place.
Inspect the rear assembly to ensure the rear assembly is resting flat and in place.
Secure the rear assembly by using the screwdriver to install 14 screws.

Attaching the Back Cover

Place the Back Cover side-by-side with the device and connect the flex connector to the Main PBA.
Once the connector is connected, cover the connector with it's cover.
Place the back cover over the rear and press the cover down on all sides. Turn the device sideways to make certain there are no openings. Once complete, insert the SIM tray.

Diagnostics

Galaxy Diagnostics – Calibrations
Launch Galaxy Diagnostics and perform Outgoing Quality Control (OQC) tests and calibrations to ensure that all components are functioning properly.

Calibrations
Galaxy A13 5G requires the following calibrations:

  • Multi Camera Calibration
  • mmWave RF Calibration

Customer Pickup
Perform one last visual inspection and return the device in the following condition:

  • Updated to the most recent firmware build
  • State of charge to 100%
  • Wiped clean using microfiber cloth to remove any fingerprints or debris
