    CommandIQ Product Manual 1 Before You Begin 1.1 About This Manual This is the product manual for CommandIQ, a touchscreen controlled console for MAX Dispatch and MAX Fire Station Alerting. This manual includes procedures for installing, configuring, and operating the CommandIQ.

    It also provides a way to quickly add temporary or secondary console positions (e.g. in a break room, supervisor desk, remote location) to systems with regular workstations. The CommandIQ console differs from a MAX Dispatch/FSA desktop or laptop workstation in that it is a completely self-contained unit. The CommandIQ can be operated entirely from its touchscreen display without additional accessories.

    Primary and Monitor and control the audio levels, respectively. Unless external speakers have been connected, both Primary and Monitor audio will play on the CommandIQ internal default speakers. There is a toggle button on the rear of the chassis that enables the external speakers to bypass the volume knobs.

    This chapter covers the console connections to the CommandIQ, as well as the initial configuration. 3.2 Optional Wall Mount If you are mounting the CommandIQ to a wall, see CommandIQ Wall Mount Template (P/N 024-0358) for instructions. 3.3 Console Connections This section covers the basic connections to the CommandIQ console during setup.

    The Foot Switch connector supports the use of an external foot switch (P/N 950- 9102) which provides PTT activation for the console. A two-connector, screw terminal plug is provided for connecting the foot switch to the CommandIQ. The foot switch input detects contact closure, so it does not matter what order the leads are attached to the connector.

    By default, when external speakers are plugged into the Audio Out connector, the Primary and Monitor audio are routed to the external speakers and the internal speaker is muted. The CommandIQ can be configured to behave differently by installing a script with the appropriate setting (see Optional Scripts on page 15).

    3.3.11 Handset Cradle The handset cradle includes a metal tab which securely holds the handset in the cradle even if the CommandIQ is mounted on a wall. For desktop use, consider removing the metal tab for easy handset removal and insertion.

    Primary audio is the audio source(s) that the dispatcher is currently focused on in the MAX console software. It is typically routed to your first speaker or your headset/handset. Other Zetron systems often referred to this as the “Select channel”.

    For example, if the dispatcher lifts the handset out of the cradle (taking it off-hook), it is reasonable to assume that the dispatcher wants to use the handset, and so the CommandIQ routes audio to the handset’s speaker and microphone, and not to any other speaker or microphone.
  • Page 20: Lifting The Handset Off-Hook

    The handset overrides the chassis microphone, and so the handset’s microphone is used for outgoing audio when the handset PTT is activated. If the headset is also present, the CommandIQ assumes that one person is using the headset and another is using the handset, so both headset and handset speakers are active.
