3.2 Feature description
3.2.1 Breathing apparatus
The breathing apparatus has an average duration of 15 minutes.
The features of the breathing apparatus are as follows:
– The carrying system comprises the shoulder harness, waist belt,
cylinder strap, and cylinder retention strap fitted on to the backplate.
– The pressure reducer connects directly on to the compressed air
cylinder. It reduces the cylinder pressure to the medium pressure
required by the lung demand valve.
– The pressure reducer contains a relief valve. If the medium pressure
exceeds the relief valve activation pressure (11 bar to 16 bar), it vents
air to the atmosphere (Fig. 2).
– The whistle on the pressure reducer sounds to warn the wearer that
the cylinder pressure is low (105 bar to 95 bar). When the whistle
sounds the user has approximately 5 minutes to evacuate to a safe
area.
– The pressure gauge shows the cylinder pressure during use.
– The medium-pressure coupling allows rapid removal and fitting of the
lung demand valve when required.
– The compressed air cylinder contains breathing air (see
section 3.2.2).
– The lung demand valve controls the breathing air supply from the
breathing apparatus to the mask (see section 3.2.3).
– The mask covers the mouth, nose, eyes, and chin of the wearer (see
section 3.2.4).
– The total weight of the breathing apparatus is less than 5 kg to meet
the requirements of group 2 of the G26 occupational health
examinations.

3.2.2 Compressed air cylinder
The breathing apparatus is compatible with a full composite compressed
air cylinder with a capacity of 2 litres, and 300 bar pressure. A full
description and user instructions are contained in separate instructions
supplied with the cylinder.
3.2.3 Lung demand valve
The breathing apparatus is compatible with PSS lung demand valves
with an A-type push-in connector. Full descriptions and user instructions
are contained in separate instructions supplied with the lung demand
valve.

contained in separate instructions supplied with the face mask.
3.3 Intended use
When the product is used with an approved compressed air cylinder,
mask and lung demand valve, the breathing apparatus provides a wearer
with respiratory protection for working in contaminated or oxygen-
deficient conditions.
6
The compressed air cylinder, mask, lung demand valve, and other
accessories used with this product must be certified Dräger components.
They must be assembled in an approved configuration and used as
described in this document and in separate instructions supplied with the
accessories, otherwise operation of the product may be impaired.

Use
WARNING
Only trained and competent users (those who have attended a relevant
training course) are permitted to prepare and use this product.
► Ensure that any accessories, ancillary equipment, and other
protective clothing items do not interfere with the breathing apparatus
and do not create a safety hazard.
WARNING
The effective working duration of the breathing apparatus depends on the
initial air supply available and the breathing rate of the wearer.
► Fill compressed air cylinders to their full rated pressure before use.
► Do not commence any operation using a cylinder that is less than 90
percent full.
CAUTION
Equipment damage can cause the release of high-pressure air.
► Do not apply excessive force or use tools to open or close a cylinder
valve.
► Do not drop or throw down the breathing apparatus.
4.1 Before use
1. Carry out a visual inspection (see section 6.3.1).
2. If necessary, fit the compressed air cylinder (see section 4.4.5).
3. Check the male element of the medium-pressure coupling for burring
(see section 4.4.1).
4. Check the push-in connector for lubricant (see section 4.4.2).
5. Press the lung demand valve reset button (Fig. 3, 1).
6. Carry out a full functional test of the breathing apparatus (see
section 6.3.2).
7. Put on the breathing apparatus (see section 4.4.3).
8. Connect the lung demand valve to the mask (see the lung demand
valve instructions for use).
9. Disconnect the lung demand valve from the medium-pressure hose.
10. Put on the mask (see the mask instructions for use).
11. Check the seal of the mask on the face (see the mask instructions for
use).
12. Open the cylinder valve slowly, but fully.
13. Connect the lung demand valve to the medium-pressure hose.
4.2 During use
WARNING
Users shall evacuate to a safe area immediately if the warning whistle
begins to sound during an operation or they could run out of air.
WARNING
Using supplementary air may greatly reduce the operating duration of the
air supply.
► When supplementary air is used, the user must immediately evacuate
to a safe area.
► The reason for using supplementary air must be investigated and
repaired before reusing the breathing apparatus.
– Ensure that the cylinder valve remains open during use.
– Regularly check the remaining cylinder pressure on the gauge.
– If supplementary air is required, briefly press the front button of the
lung demand valve to deliver extra air into the mask.
4.3 After use
1. Take off the breathing apparatus (see section 4.4.4).
2. Carry out a visual inspection of the breathing apparatus (see
section 6.3.1).
3. Carry out a full functional test of the breathing apparatus (see
section 6.3.2).
4. Check the push-in connector for lubricant (see section 4.4.2).
5. If necessary, remove the cylinder (see section 4.4.6).
6. If necessary, charge the cylinder (see section 6.3.3).
7. Pass the breathing apparatus to the service department. Include
details of any faults or damage that occurred during use.
4.4 Common tasks
4.4.1 Checking the medium-pressure coupling
1. Press the male element into the female element of the coupling until a
click is heard.
2. Disconnect the male element from the female element of the quick
coupling.
3. Reconnect the quick coupling as per step 1.
Further steps
If there is any difficultly disconnecting or connecting, see section 5.
4.4.2 Checking the push-in connector
1. Check for lubricant on the O-ring of the push-in connector.
As a guide, lubricant should be felt on the fingers but not seen.
Further steps
If relubrication is required, lightly apply Molykote 111 to the O-ring of the
push-in connector.
