If foreign matter has built up:
Remove the foreign-matter
accretions.
Check alternator drive belt 1
for cracks and wear.
If the belt is cracked or badly
worn:
Have the alternator drive
belt replaced by a special-
ist workshop, preferably an
authorised BMW Motorrad
dealer.
Place the cover of the al-
ternator drive belt in posi-
tion.
Install screws 1.
Checking air filter for dirt
Make sure the ground is
level and firm and place the
motorcycle on its stand.
Remove screw 1 from the
intake guard.
Remove the intake guard.
Remove screws 2 from the
side panel.
Remove the right side pan-
el.
