WARNING Risk of refrigerant system rupture or explosion from overpressurization. Can cause equipment damage, injury or death. If a pressure relief device is not provided with the condenser unit, the system installer must provide and install a discharge pressure relief valve rated for a maximum of 45 bar in the high side refrigerant circuit. Do not install a shut-off valve between the condenser and the relief valve.

1.0 PRELIMINARY OPERATIONS WARNING! Risk of top-heavy unit falling over. Can cause death, injury and equipment damage. Read all of the following instructions before attempting to move, lift or remove packaging from the unit. CAUTION! Risk of sharp edges, exposed and chipped fasteners. Can cause personal injury. Only personnel wearing appropriate safety headgear, gloves, shoes and glasses should attempt to move, liftor remove packaging from the unit or prepare the unit for installation.
1.0 PRELIMINARY OPERATIONS 1.3 Operating limits The units are designed to operate within the working ranges (see Tab. a). These limits refer to new machines or to those that have been correctly installed and serviced. The warranty clauses are no longer valid in the case of any damage or malfunction that may occur during or due to operation outside the application values.
1.0 PRELIMINARY OPERATIONS 1.5 Product Description The Liebert CRV is an air-cooled direct expansion Thermal Management unit to be installed in a row of high den- ® sity computing racks in a “hot-aisle-cold-aisle” configuration. Use walls or opposing racks to minimize the width of the hot and cold aisles; the optimal width is between 0.6 and 1.8 m. For specific recommendations on how to optimize your space for row based cooling, contact your local Vertiv representative.
2 - POSITIONING - UNIT PLACEMENT Cooling unit location within a row becomes less critical when deployed in SmartAisle™ containment, but it is recommended that the Liebert CRV be evenly spaced in each row. The diameter required is stated in Tab. c. If the installer intends to use pipes of a larger diameter (e.g. for long winding runs) then consult Vertiv Technical Support first. Use as short refrigeration pipelines as possible to minimize the total charge of re- frigerant and the pressure drops.
Page 24
4 - REFRIGERATION CONNECTIONS 4.1.4 Installing pipelines THE FOLLOWING OPERATIONS MUST BE CARRIED OUT BY AN EXPERIENCED REFRIGERATION TECHNICIAN. The operation of opening the valves of the room unit pressurized with helium (at 1 bar) and the cutting of the pipes at the bottom of the unit must be carried out as final operations, together with the emptying of the whole system.

6 - ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS 6.4 Protective features of Electrical Heaters In the event of over temperature of electrical heater, the temperature intervenes and the thermal protection interrupts the current. If the temperature rises over 110°C, the thermofuse intervenes and generate an alarm. 6.5 Temperature probes placed on racks Each unit is provided with at a minimum of 3 temperature probes (standard feature) and a maximum of 10.

7- START-UP 7.1 First start-up (or after long standstill) TO PREVENT COMPRESSOR DAMAGE THE CRANKCASE(S) MUST BE PREHEATED FOR AT LEAST 4 HOURS BEFORE CONDI- TIONER START-UP (FAILURE DUE TO INCORRECT PROCEDURE INVALIDATES THE COMPRESSOR GUARANTEE). Start the air conditioner as follows: Open all valves in the refrigeration circuit according to the instruction label attached to the valve.
8 - OPERATION Unit operation is completely automatic. The below sequence explains how the unit operates : • The air, sucked in by the fans, which operate continuously, enters the unit. • The air is immediately filtered. • The TEMPERATURE sensor or HUMITEMP (temperature + rel. humidity) sensor (check type installed), verifies the state of the inlet air, and relays this information to the control system.
9 - CALIBRATIONS & REGULATION (AT START-UP) The air conditioner has already been factory tested and calibrated, but it is very important to check, at startup, the superheating of ther- mostatic valve. • The air conditioner has already been factory calibrated. •...
10.2 Spare parts Only original spare parts made by Vertiv may be used. Using third-party material can invalidate the warranty. 10 - MAINTENANCE / SPARE PARTS Normally 1 or 2-litre cans are available for this purpose; once they are opened, they must not be used after a long period, as the oil ab- sorbs humidity. Enclosure A - HUMIDAIR HUMIDIFIER App. A.1 Electrode humidifier The operation of immersed electrode humidifiers is based on a very simple physical principle. As common drinking water contains a certain quantity of dissolved mineral salts, and is consequently slightly conductive, applying a volt- age to metal electrodes immersed in the water creates an electric current that heats the water until it produces steam (Joule effect).
Page 46
Enclosure A - HUMIDAIR HUMIDIFIER There is no relationship between hardness and conductivity of the water. Important: • Do not treat the water with softeners, this may cause the entrainment of foam, compromising the operation of the unit; • Do not add disinfectants or anticorrosive compounds to the water, as these are potential irritants; •...
Page 47
Note 1 In the case of low water conductivity consult Vertiv Service. Note 2 When starting with an empty cylinder, the water conductivity is normally insufficient for the HUMIDIFIER STEAM OUTPUT to be reached immediately.
