Getting started
To turn on your handheld, press the Power button once. The Home
screen appears. This screen is your starting point for using your
handheld's applications.
The Home screen displays the date and time, the wireless coverage
indicator (showing the current signal strength), the type of your
connection to the wireless network, the battery power indicator
(showing the current battery level of your handheld), and the
application icons. The Home screen also displays notification of any
new items, reminders, or alarms.
Depending on the status of your connection to the wireless network,
1X appears on the Home screen when you can send and receive
email, PIN, and SMS messages. You can also place and answer
phone calls and browse web pages. Refer to the Handheld User Guide
for more information on network status icons.
Depending on your handheld version or service provider, an
Assisted Global Positioning System (A-GPS) icon might appear on
the Home screen to indicate that your handheld is enabled with
A-GPS support. Refer to "Placing emergency calls" on page 63 for
more information on placing emergency calls with A-GPS. Refer to
the Handheld User Guide for more information on setting the A-GPS
feature.
Use the trackwheel to scroll through the application icons. The
name of each application appears at the bottom of the screen. To
open an application, scroll to the appropriate icon and click the
trackwheel.
