    PC Display to ASE-Net Conversion Manual ALARM SIGNALLING EQUIPMENT The ASE-Net ASE Mk2 alarm signalling equipment (ASE) is used in the Vigilant ASE-Net monitoring system to monitor fire alarm systems (e.g., fire alarm panels, sprinkler systems, etc) and security panels located in 1 or more buildings and transmit any status changes (e.g., Alarms, Faults, etc) to the ASE-Net monitoring centre (see Figure 1.1).

    ASE-Net ASE Mk2 User Manual Document: LT0446 Installation MOUNTING THE ASE 2.1.1 POSITIONING THE ASE The ASE Mk2 unit must be placed in a dry area (inside a building) with moderate ambient temperature, where it can be accessed by service staff and where the cabling can be readily attached and conveniently routed.

The ASE Mk2 should be mounted with at least 2 screws (top and bottom of opposite sides).

The mains adapter must be connected to the AC IN terminals on the ASE board (order is not important).

There are, however, some ASE parameters which must first be configured locally using the ASE’s diagnostic port. 2.5.1 CONFIGURING THE ETHERNET PORT The ASE has an Ethernet port that can be used to communicate with the monitoring centre.

When the door is closed the ASE turns off all its status indicators to save power. The ASE also transmits an ASE Status message to the monitoring centre when the door is opened or closed.

    ASE-Net ASE Mk2 User Manual Document: LT0446 ASE Diagnostics INTRODUCTION The ASE Mk2 provides diagnostic functions via its serial port (J22) to a connected terminal or PC running a terminal emulator program. There are two types of diagnostics. On initial power up the monitor mode starts and waits for 5 seconds for a password.

This port operates at 38400, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, with Xon/Xoff flow control. A 3 wire null modem cable with DB9 female connectors on each end (LM0076) is needed.

    ASE-Net ASE Mk2 User Manual Document: LT0446 Modbus INTRODUCTION The ASE supports some of the Modbus message data formats as specified in the Modbus Application Protocol Specification V1.1b. The ASE supports Modbus on only its Ethernet port, and other communication methods such as RS232 are not supported. The ASE supports Modbus over TCP/IP as specified in the Modbus Messaging On TCP/IP Implementation Guide.
