Before first use

Before using the pot for the first time, familiarise yourself with the pot and its handling and check that the contents of the delivery are complete (see illustration A). However, some devices are accessory devices.

Opening the pot

See Figure C:

Press the operating button (Fig. A-7) on the lid handle in the direction of the arrow and turn the lid counterclockwise (to the right) as far as it will go. The lid can now be removed.

Positioning aid

There is a metal tab with the inscription „Close" (Fig. A-14) on the lid and a corresponding groove (Fig. A-12) in the pot handle. This is to make it easy to put the lid on.

Closing the pot

See Figure D:

Put the lid on by holding it at a slight angle, inserting the positioning aid into the groove on the pot handle, and then lowering it. The correct position of the lid is marked by a circle symbol on the lid as well as by additional red dots on the positioning aid and pot handle.

When these points line up exactly opposite each other, the lid can be put on.

See Figure E:

To close, turn the lid clockwise (to the left) as far as it will go until the pot locks with an audible „click".

Locking indicator

See Figure F:

You can tell whether the pot is properly closed and ready for use by looking at the locking indicator (Fig. A-8) in the lid handle.

Green: the pot is closed properly and ready for use.

Red: the pot is not closed properly, so no pressure can be built up.

Cleaning

Before first use, rinse the pot, lid and sealing ring thoroughly. This removes any polishing dust and small impurities that may still be present.

We recommend treating the pot and lid with a stainless steel care product afterwards.

This makes the stainless steel more resistant to salts and acidic foods. Residues of care products should always be washed off thoroughly. You can repeat the treatment as required or when the stainless steel surface has changed visually.

Instructions for use

Safety devices

Your vitavit® pressure cooker is equipped with various devices that work independently to ensure the safety of the device. Before each use, please check the functionality of the safety devices mentioned below and never tamper with them. Make sure that the pressure regulator and lid handle are correctly fitted and firmly seated before starting cooking. You will find instructions on this in "Cleaning & care" chapter.

Pressure regulator
(Fig. A-3)

See Figure G:

Remove the pressure regulator from the lid and set to level 3. Check that the boiling indicator (1) and valve body (2) move freely and spring back by applying pressure with your finger.

Euromatic
(Fig. A-21)

See Figure H+I:

Make sure that the Euromatic sits properly and moves freely in the lid. The O-ring seal must lie completely in the notch provided.

See Figure J:

Check whether the white ball in the Euromatic moves freely and springs back by applying pressure with your finger.

Sealing ring
(Fig. A-23)

and safety nub
(Fig. A-20)

See Figure K:

Check that the sealing ring and lid rim are clean, the sealing ring is undamaged and the safety nub (1) moves freely.

Insert the sealing ring so that it lies completely flat and below the inwardly curved edge segments (2), against the inside of the lid. The sealing ring must be in front of the safety nub, i.e. pressed away from the edge of the cover.

Filling quantities

Never cook without enough liquid and make sure that the liquid in the pressure cooker does not evaporate completely. Failure to do so may cause the food to burn and damage the pot handles, valves, safety devices and the hob. If this happens, do not continue to use the pressure cooker as the functionality of the valves and safety devices can no longer be guaranteed. Have your pressure cooker checked by Fissler customer service.

See Figure L:

Please note the following information on filling quantities for pressure cooking. For easy measuring, there is a scale (min/max) on the inside of the pot.

Depending on the diameter of the device, at least 200-300 ml of liquid is required to produce steam, regardless of whether you are cooking with or without an insert. Never operate the pressure cooker without this minimum amount of liquid.

Ø 18 cm: 200 ml
Ø 22 cm: 250 ml
Ø 26 cm 300 ml

The pressure cooker must not be filled to more than ⅔ of its capacity to ensure safe operation (see max marking).

½
For foods that foam or expand during cooking, such as rice, broth or dried vegetables, the pressure cooker may be filled to no more than half its capacity (see ½ mark).

When cooking beans and other pulses, only fill the pot to ⅓ of its capacity (see ⅓ mark), as their thin skin can easily rise and clog the valves.

Stovetop suitability

Fissler pressure cookers are suitable for all stove types.
These include gas hobs as well as electric/hot plate/glass ceramic induction hobs.

Regulating the hob

Never heat the opened pressure cooker when empty or with fat for more than 2 minutes at the highest energy setting, as overheating can damage the base.

Hot plate/glass ceramic (radiation/halogen):
The stovetop should be the same diameter as the bottom of the pot or smaller.

Gas hob:
Place the cookware in the centre and avoid flashover, as this will damage the plastic handles.

Induction:
Always place the cookware in the centre of the hob. The size of the base of the pan should match or be larger than the hob size, otherwise the hob may not respond to the base of the pan.

Special instructions for induction cookers:
To avoid overheating and damage to the cookware due to the high performance of induction, please never heat it unattended or while empty. Please also observe the instructions provided by the hob manufacturer.
A buzzing sound may be heard during use. This noise is due to technical reasons and is not a sign of a defect in the hob or cookware.

Energy saving tips

  • When cooking on the gentle or fast setting, regulate the hob so that the cooking indicator does not enter the red zone and the cooking valve does not start to release steam.
  • When cooking on the steam setting, adjust the hob so that only a slight plume of steam comes out of the lid handle or pressure regulator.
  • Use a hob of the appropriate size (see specifications above).
  • Select cookware size according to the amount being cooked
  • Use the stored heat of the base. Switch off the hob before the end of the cooking time to use the cooling time

You can find more information and recipe ideas at www.fissler.com

Preparation

Add the ingredients to the pressure cooker according to the recipe.
Observe the specified filling quantities ("Instructions for use" chapter).
Then put the lid on and close the pot.
If the locking indicator (fig. A-8) in the lid handle is green, the pot is ready ("Before first use" chapter).

Selecting a cooking setting

See Figure M:

Choose the desired cooking setting on the pressure regulator (Fig. A-3). To do this, set the marking on the setting ring to the number of the corresponding cooking setting.

Cooking setting 1, approx. 110°C (gentle cooking)
(45 kPa operating pressure)
For very delicate dishes such as fish

Cooking setting 2, approx. 113°C (quick cooking)
(60 kPa operating pressure) for delicate dishes such as vegetables

Cooking setting 3, approx. 116°C (express cooking)
(75 kPa operating pressure) for all other dishes such as meat dishes and stews

Steam setting
In addition to the gentle, quick and express cooking settings, you can also select a cooking setting for gentle steaming in use (Fig. A-1) or cooking without pressure.

Parboiling and venting

Heat the pressure cooker on the highest energy level.
Steam will escape from under the lid handle (Fig. A-6) and with it the oxygen in the air that is harmful to vitamins.
This process may take a few minutes. As soon as the Euromatic closes and no more steam escapes, the pressure build-up will begin. A little later, the cooking indicator (Fig. A-4) will start to show the rise in pressure.

Cooking indicator with traffic light function

See Figure N:

The cooking indicator always shows a sequence of three coloured rings – regardless of the cooking setting selected. The colours signal the temperature curve in the pot according to the traffic light principle and provide assistance in regulating the energy supply.

Yellow ring:
the cooking setting is almost reached. The hob can be dialled back.
Depending on the type of hob and the amount of food, you can switch back sooner or later: at the beginning of the yellow range for hotplate/glass ceramic, towards the end of the yellow range for induction/gas.

Green ring:
The cooking setting has been reached, the cooking time begins.
The energy supply should be regulated so that the cooking indicator remains in the green area throughout the cooking time.

Red ring:
the temperature in the pot is too high. The pot will automatically start to release steam to regulate the temperature. Please turn the hob down further.
The energy supply should be regulated so that the cooking indicator does not rise into the red range. Otherwise, the pot loses liquid through evaporation.

Cooking times

The cooking times are measured from the time the selected cooking setting (green ring) is reached.

Basic rules:

  1. The cooking time on setting 3 is approximately ½ to ⅓ of the time normally required when using a conventional pot.
  2. The cooking time on setting 1 is about 50% longer than on setting 3.
The cooking time on setting 2 is about 25% longer than on setting 3.
  3. Cooking times may vary depending on the quantity, shape, size and texture of the food.

Example of jacket potatoes:

Normal cooking time Cooking setting 3 Cooking setting 2 Cooking setting 1
approx. 30 min approx. 8-12 min. approx. 13-16 min. approx. 18 min.

At the end of the cooking time, remove the pressure cooker from the hob and allow the pressure to escape (see notes in the following chapter) and only then can you open it.

Releasing steam from the vitavit®

Never force the pressure cooker open. The pot must not be opened until the cooking indicator has lowered completely and no more steam escapes when the control button is pressed.

There are 4 ways to release steam from your Fissler pressure cooker.
You should choose the method for steam release depending on the food being cooked. For slightly foaming or rising foods such as pulses, soups or stews, or for foods with delicate skins such as jacket potatoes, do not use a method with rapid pressure reduction, as otherwise the food may spill out or the skin may crack.

Method 1
Quick steam release with the control button

See Figure O:

Press the control button (Fig. A-7) lightly in the direction of the arrow to release steam from under the lid handle (Fig. A-9). Hold the button down until the cooking indicator has completely lowered and no more steam escapes.

Then release the button, gently shake the pot and press the control button again. Repeat this process until no more steam escapes. When the pot is depressurised, the Euromatic lowers. The control button can now be pressed all the way down to open the pot.

warning Note:
as long as there is pressure in the pot, the control button cannot be pressed all the way down. This is for your safety, as it prevents the pot from being opened accidentally when it is still under pressure. So do not try to force down the control button.

Method 2
Adjustable steam release with the pressure regulator

See Figure P:

By gradually turning the adjusting ring towards the steam release position, steam will escape from under the pressure regulator (Fig. A-5). You can choose to release steam gently or a little faster. The greater the increments in which you adjust the setting ring, the higher the steam output. At the end, set the adjustment ring to the steam release position and wait until no more steam escapes. Then gently shake the pot and repeat this process until no more steam escapes. When the pot is depressurised, the Euromatic lowers. The control button can now be pressed all the way down to open the pot.

warning Note:
never turn the setting ring from cooking setting 1, 2 or 3 directly to the steam release position, as the steam output will otherwise be very high and food may escape. Always turn the pressure regulator to the steam release position in several small steps.

Method 3
Allow to cool
You can choose this method to use the residual energy in the pot.
To do this, remove the pot from the hob shortly before the end of the cooking time and allow it to cool slowly until the cooking indicator has gone all the way down.

Then press the control button lightly to release any remaining pressure. Release the button as soon as no more steam escapes, then gently shake the pot and press the control button again. Repeat this process until no more steam escapes. When the pot is depressurised, the Euromatic lowers. The control button can now be pressed all the way down to open the pot.

This method is particularly suitable for dishes with long cooking times.

Method 4
Quick steam release under running water

See Figure Q:

If the escaping steam bothers you, you can also depressurise the pot under running water. To do this, place the pot in the sink and run cold water over the side of the lid (not over the lid handle and pressure regulator) until the cooking indicator has lowered completely.

Cleaning & care

Cleaning

Clean the pressure cooker after each use.

  • Remove the sealing ring from the lid and rinse by hand.
  • Remove the pressure regulator and wipe it with a damp cloth.
  • Remove the lid handle and rinse under running water.
  • The pot, lid (without sealing ring, pressure regulator and lid handle) and inserts can also be cleaned in the dishwasher

warning Please note:

  • To clean, use hot rinsing water with normal dish liquid and a pot sponge or soft brush. Please avoid pointy, rough or sharp objects. You can also use the scrubber side of a sponge if the inside and base of the cookware is very dirty.
  • Do not let food residues dry and do not keep food in the pot for a long time, as this can cause stains on the stainless steel and changes to the surface.
  • To preserve the stainless steel surface, use a stainless steel care product regularly. This will remove white spots, tarnish and any built-up film.
  • When cleaning in the dishwasher, only use household products in the dosage recommended by the manufacturer, do not use industrial detergents or highly concentrated cleaners.

See Figure S:

Insert the pressure regulator into the specified position in the lid from above, screw on the bell nut clockwise from below and tighten it firmly. Make sure that the cooking valve seal is tight against the pressure regulator all the way around and that the seal is seated in the notch provided.

Lid handle
(Fig. A-9)

Removal:
See Figure T:

Loosen the cover handle by turning the fastening screw (Fig. A-22) on the inside of the cover anti-clockwise.

Mounting:
See Figure U:

Hold the lid handle in your hand and place the lid in the specified position.
Turn the fastening screw clockwise and tighten it firmly.

Storage

The sealing ring should be stored in a clean, dry and dark (protected from sunlight and radiation) place.
To protect the sealing ring and avoid crushing it, place the lid upside down on the pot after leaning.

Maintenance & spare parts

  • Wear parts such as the sealing ring and other rubber parts must be replaced regularly, i.e. after a maximum of 400 cooking processes or after 2 years at the latest, with original Fissler spare parts. Parts that show visible damage (e.g. hardening, cracks, discolouration or deformation) or that do not fit correctly must also be replaced immediately. Failure to do so will impair the function and safety of your pressure cooker.
If you have any questions, please contact our customer service or the staff at your specialist retailer.

Notes on replacing parts

Troubleshooting

Switch off the hob, make sure your pressure cooker is depressurised (see "Releasing steam from the vitavit" chapter and allow the pressure cooker to cool down before attempting to rectify a fault.

Problem Possible cause Remedy
Steam escapes from under the lid handle (on the Euromatic) for longer than usual when parboiling. You have selected the steam cooking setting or another setting below setting 1. During pressureless steam cooking, a small amount of steam escaping is normal. If you want to cook under pressure with the system closed, please select setting 1, 2 or 3 (see "Cooking with the vitavit" chapter).
The pot is not closed properly. (Indicator in the lid handle is on red). Close the pot properly. (see "Before first use" chapter) (Indicator in the lid handle is on green)
The energy supply is too low. Set the heat source to maximum power.
The hob size does not match the base diameter of the pressure cooker. Place the pressure cooker on the appropriate hob. (see "Cooking with the vitavit" chapter)
The lid handle is loose. Tighten the fastening screw of the lid handle on the inside of the lid.
The Fissler Euromatic or the accompanying O-ring are dirty or damaged. Clean or replace parts. (see chapters "Cleaning & care", "Maintenance & spare parts")
No steam escapes when parboiling. Too little liquid was added to the pot. Add the minimum amount of liquid (200-300 ml). (see "Instructions for use" chapter)
The energy supply is too low. Set the heat source to maximum power.
Steam and/or water droplets are escaping from the edge of the lid before the cooking indicator starts to rise. The sealing ring is not inserted correctly. Insert the sealing ring correctly. (see "Instructions for use" chapter)
The sealing ring is dirty or damaged. Clean or replace the sealing ring.
The pot is not closed properly. (Indicator in the lid handle is on red). Close the pot properly. (see "Before first use" chapter) (Indicator in the lid handle is on green)
The cooking indicator is not increasing. Steam is escaping from the lid handle. Steam is escaping from the edge of the lid. See previous points. See previous points.
Too little liquid was added to the pot. Add the minimum amount of liquid (200-300 ml). (see "Instructions for use" chapter)

Safety instructions

User instructions

  • Please read the user instructions and all directions completely before using the vitavit® pressure cooker, as improper use may result in damage.
  • Please save these instructions for future reference for as long as you own the product. However, if you have lost the user instructions, you can download them from our website www.fissler.com.
  • Do not leave the pressure cooker in the hands of anyone who has not first familiarised themselves with the user instructions.
  • Please only pass your pressure cooker on to third parties with the user instructions.

Supervision

  • Suffocation hazard due to plastic bag. Keep the plastic bag out of reach of children as there is a risk of suffocation.
  • Do not use the pressure cooker near children.
  • Please never leave the pressure cooker unattended. Regulate the energy supply so that the cooking indicator does not rise into the red range. If the energy supply is not reduced, steam will escape through the valve and the pot will lose liquid. The complete loss of liquid will cause the food to burn and can cause damage to the pot and hob.

Safe use of the pressure cooker

  • Never use pressure cookers or pressure skillets in a hot oven. Handles, valves and safety devices will be damaged by the high temperatures and will then no longer be able to fulfill their safety function.
  • Always fry in the pressure cooker without a lid and do not fill it more than halfway with fat. Never fry with pressure!
  • Pressure cookers must not be used in the medical field. Especially not as a medical steriliser, as pressure cookers are not designed for the required sterilisation temperature.
  • Do not prepare applesauce or compotes in the pressure cooker, as steam bubbles often form here which can burst open when opening the pot and cause scalding.
  • When cooking meat in a pressure cooker, excess pressure is created in the meat. Therefore, after opening the pressure cooker, please let the meat rest for a while before piercing or moving it to avoid burns.

Safety and maintenance

  • Only use the pressure cooker with original and fully functional Fissler components. Only use original Fissler spare parts. In particular, only use pots and lids of the same model and other spare parts of the type intended for your appliance (see "Maintenance & spare parts" chapter). Failure to do so will impair the function and safety of the pressure cooker.
  • Before each use, make sure that all valves and safety devices are undamaged, functional and clean. This is the only way to ensure safe operation. Information on this can be found in "Instructions for use" chapter.
  • Do not make any modifications to the pressure cooker. In particular, do not tamper with the safety devices – except for the maintenance measures listed in the user instructions. Do not oil the valves!
  • Replace wear parts such as the sealing ring and other rubber parts regularly with original Fissler spare parts, i.e. after a maximum of 400 cooking processes or after 2 years at the latest. Parts that show visible damage (e.g. hardening, cracks, discolouration, overheating or deformation) or that do not fit correctly must be replaced immediately. Failure to do so will impair the function and safety of your pressure cooker.
  • For your own safety, please tighten loosened screws immediately.
  • In addition, replace cracked or damaged plastic handles immediately with original Fissler spare parts.

Repair notice:

Minor repairs can be carried out by you:

  • Replacing parts affected by wear (sealing ring, valve, the Euromatic or handles).
  • Retightening screws. For other repairs, please contact Fissler customer service. (see "Customer Service" chapter)

Operating the pressure cooker

  • This appliance cooks under pressure. Improper use may result in burns. Make sure that the device is properly closed before heating. Information on this can be found in "Before first use" chapter. Never use the pressure cooker with the lid on loosely.
  • Only use the heating sources listed in "Instructions for use" chapter.
  • Never heat the pressure cooker without liquid in it, as overheating can cause damage to the device, the valves, the safety devices and the hob. If this happens, do not continue to use the pressure cooker as the functionality of the safety devices can no longer be guaranteed. Have your pressure cooker checked by Fissler customer service.
  • Minimum fill volume: 200-300 ml of water depending on the diameter of your device (see min mark). In case of overheating, plastic parts on the pot or the aluminium core in the base may melt and liquify. Should this occur, switch off the hob and do not move the pan until it has cooled down completely. Air out the room.
  • Never fill the pressure cooker to more than ⅔ of its capacity (see max mark). For foods that foam or expand during cooking (such as rice, broths or dried vegetables), fill the pressure cooker to no more than half its capacity (see ½ mark).
  • For beans and other pulses, fill the pressure cooker no higher than the ⅓-mark, as their thin skin can easily rise and clog the valves.
  • Move the pressure cooker very carefully when it is under pressure and do not touch hot surfaces. Use the handles and controls to do this. If necessary, use hand protection.

Opening the pot

  • Never open the pressure cooker by force. Do not open it until you are sure that the internal pressure has been completely released. Information on this can be found in "Releasing steam from the vitavit" chapter.
  • Always shake the pressure cooker before opening it so that no steam bubbles spray out and you do not get scalded. This is particularly important when using the steam quick release or after cooling under running water.
  • Always keep your hands, head and body out of the danger zone when letting out the steam to avoid being injured by the escaping steam. This applies in particular when using the control button or the pressure regulator for quickly releasing the steam.

Do not use the pressure cooker if it or any part of it is damaged or deformed or if it is not functioning as described in these user instructions. If this occurs, please contact the nearest Fissler specialist shop or the customer service of Fissler GmbH. (see "Customer Service" chapter)
