2.6.4 Reference Cables
Reference Cables
Reference cables are used by 28000 cards that support channel composite match FAT testing.
The 28000-M3 and the 28000-M5 chassis, and also the 28316C card, require different ref-
erence cables. See Table 1 for assistance in selecting the correct reference cable for your test
setup.
Reference cables are not required for 28524, 28608B, 28612, 28618, or 28708 cards.
• CB-REF-C Cable
Supports the FAT frequency response match tests on all 4-channel and 8-channel cards
installed in M3 chassis, except 28314 and 28316C cards.
• CB-HD26P-REF-C
Test cable for performing FAT frequency response match tests on all 4-channel and
8-channel cards in M5 chassis, except 28314 and 28316C cards.
• CB-28316C-DC37P-REF-C
Supports FAT frequency response match tests on 28316C cards in M3 or M5 chassis.
• CB-28316C-REF-C
Supports FAT frequency composite match tests on 28316C cards in M5 chassis.
FAT Reference Cable Setup: M3 Mainframes
The 28000-M3 mainframes, with the exception of the 28316C card, uses the CB-REF-C refer-
ence cable. The cable consists of a 50-pin D connector, which is installed on either connector
J300, J301, J302, or J303 and a 9-pin D connector that is installed on System Input connector
J500.
The designated reference channel is the first output channel for the 50-pin D connector. For
example, if the reference cable is installed on J300 then a card must be installed in slot 0 and
channel 0 of that card is the reference channel. If the reference cable is installed on J303, then
a card must be installed in slot 12 and channel 0 of that card is the reference channel. Figure 9
shows the reference cable connected to J300 and the System Input connector J500.

Note: For the channel match FAT test to operate properly, you must enter the location of
the reference cable in the GUI's Reference Channel A field on the PF28000 FAT Selection
panel. Refer to the 28000-4A-TEST Operation and Installation Instructions manual, Sec-
tion 3.13, Card FAT Test Setup, for programming the PF28000 FAT Selection panel.
