Problem
Unexpected results when
flash set to b (auto with
red-eye reduction).
Skin tones are not softened.
Saving images takes time.
A ring-shaped belt or
rainbow-colored stripe
appears in the monitor or
images.
Playback
Problem
File cannot be played back.
Cannot zoom in on picture.
Cause/Solution
When taking pictures with b (auto with red-
eye reduction) or fill flash with slow sync and
red-eye reduction in Night portrait scene
mode, In-Camera Red-Eye Fix may be applied to
areas not affected by red-eye. Use any scene
mode other than Night portrait, and change
the flash mode to any setting other than b
(auto with red-eye reduction) and try taking a
picture again.
• Under some shooting conditions, facial skin
tones may not be softened.
• Select Skin softening for Glamour retouch
in the retouch menu for pictures containing
four or more faces.
It may take more time to save images in the
following situations.
• When the noise reduction function is in
operation.
• When flash mode is set to b (auto with red-
eye reduction).
• When shooting in Backlighting scene mode
(when HDR is set to On).
• When the skin softening function is applied
while shooting.
When shooting with backlighting or when a
very strong light source (such as sunlight) is in
the frame, a ring-shaped belt or rainbow-
colored stripe (ghosting) may occur. Change the
position of the light source, or frame the picture
so that the light source does not enter the frame
and try again.
Cause/Solution
• File or folder was overwritten or renamed by
computer or other make of camera.
• The COOLPIX S100 is not able to playback
movies recorded with another make or model
of digital camera.
• Pictures taken with cameras other than
COOLPIX S100 may not be enlarged.
• 3D pictures cannot be enlarged when the
camera is connected via HDMI and they are
played back in 3D.
• Playback zoom cannot be used with movies,
small pictures, or pictures that have been
cropped to a size of 640 × 360 or smaller.
