Instructions for the installation and description of the functions for Pinion MGU mid-motor design date: 25.06.2024 current version of this manual at bikespeed.de page 1...
Product description The bikespeed-RS is a simple and compact kit to bypass the speed limit of 25 km/h of bikes with Pinion MGU RS mid-design. Additionally, a modification of the pulleys on your bike is necessary.
For more information and a calculation tool for the new pulley, please visit our website: https://www.bikespeed.de/PinionEN.html The tuning allows for the exchange of pulleys, enabling a higher top speed. You can calculate the achievable speed with motor assistance using the link above.
Compatibility list Please note that the following list may not be up to date. At the time of printing this manual, the bikespeed-RS is compatible with the following motors and displays. If updates are made to your pedelec, it is also possible that compatibility may no longer be given.

Safety instructions, product liability and exclusion of liability By using the bikespeed-RS on your pedelec, a relevant safety feature (the speed-dependent limitation of the motor power) is overridden. You must assume that your pedelec is not suitable for this and e.g., frame, brakes, chassis, tires, etc.

A modified bicycle may only be used by an authorized, trained and instructed person. We assume the following level of training: Function User Operator Only persons trained and instructed about the special dangers Maintenance personnel Only the manufacturer of the pedelec or an / technicians authorized specialist workshop by persons with the appropriate expertise...

Before using the system, please enquire about the legal consequences that may arise for you because of the installation. We expressly point out that the use of bikespeed RS will result in the loss of the manufacturer's warranty. Furthermore, the manufacturer and bikespeed have no product liability for your pedelec.
Page 8
Bikespeed or the manufacturer of your pedelec cannot guarantee that brakes, frame, chassis, tires, etc. are designed for the use of the tuning part. Before use, the more highly stressed components of the pedelec (e.g., frame, brakes, tires, bearings, and suspension, etc.) must be tuned by the manufacturer or tested and approved by a suitable testing Centre (e.g.,...
Description of functions The bikespeed-RS allows for the modification of the pulleys on your pedelec with a Pinion MGU, thus removing the 25 km/h speed limit of your pedelec. All other features and functions of your bike remain as usual. This also includes the protective measures installed by the manufacturer (e.g., short circuit, overcurrent, power, torque,...
Page 10
Setting the gear ratio For the bikespeed-RS to function, the gear ratio of the pulleys on your bike in its delivery condition must be entered. Please visit our homepage using the following link: https://www.bikespeed.de/PinionEN.html In the first step, enter the number of teeth of the pulleys installed on your bike in its delivery condition.

Important: to perform the Pinion MGU- or FIT-system with a customer service, please first have a look on bikespeed and check on our website www.bikespeed.de, whether the tuning continues to work with a later software or not. You can find out the software approved for your tuning by checking the line with the purchase date for your tuning, as well as your motor and display.

Hint for the odometer Please note that after the deinstallation of the bikespeed-RS your odometer may show a lower value under certain circumstances like you are traveled with your bike. This behavior is caused by the design and not a fault.
Help in case of problems If your bikespeed-RS does not work correctly at any given time, please check the following steps to help yourself. Should you still have problems please write an email before sending back the bikespeed-RS. Cause Solution...
Page 15
Help in case of problems (continue) Cause Solution - Pre-Select is not working - The bikespeed-RS needs to calibrate itself correctly to your bike once. For this, a constant ride with increased torque while pedaling for at least 5 seconds is necessary. If this is significantly off for you, please redo the gear ratio setting (see page 10).

During installation, ensure that the ergonomic principle and functionality of the pedelec are not changed or impaired. The protection class of the bikespeed-RS is IP64. The bikespeed-RS does not require a separate power source. It is supplied with energy from the battery of the pedelec in which the tuning is installed.

If you still have questions, please feel free to contact us at any time. To access the connectors for connecting the bikespeed RS, a cover on the motor must be removed. Please follow the instructions on the following pages.
Page 18
Please turn off the bike and remove the battery from the frame. Then remove the cover shown on the motor by loosening the 3 screws with a Torx T20 screwdriver. Disconnect the 3-pin connector for the speed sensor (orange) and the 5-pin connector for the display (green).
Page 19
Connect the disconnected connectors to their corresponding counterparts on the bikespeed-RS. Then, connect the other two plugs on the bikespeed-RS to the available slots on the motor. Ensure that the plug connections on the motor are firmly seated. Store the tuning and cables inside the frame and reattach the cover.

Remove the belt from the front pulley. To do this, pull the belt tensioner down (e.g., with a size 5 Allen key) and then take off the belt. Loosen the axle mounting screw on the rear wheel with a size 6 Allen key.
Page 21
Insert the freewheel tool into the axle of the rear wheel. Loosen the freewheel nut. Hold the pulley in place with a water pump pliers as shown in the photo. Then, the pulley can be easily swapped by repositioning it. Make sure to reassemble all spacer rings in their original order.
Page 22
Check the correct positioning of the spacer rings (splines), then tighten the freewheel nut again. The torque specification is usually printed on it and, in our case, it is 40 Nm. The pulley does not need to be held in place while tightening. Loosen the bearing screws for the rear suspension with a size 5 Allen key to open the frame for the belt replacement.
Page 23
Pull the bearings outwards. The frame can now be separated to replace the belt. Pay attention to the correct routing. Then reassemble the frame, tighten the bearings and install the rear wheel. page 23...
Page 24
The pressure roller for the belt on the rear wheel must be adjusted to the new pulley position. It should not touch the belt to avoid noise during riding. A size 30 Torx is required for this adjustment. Put the belt back onto the front pulley. To do this, you can pull the belt tensioner down again.

Hint for disposal Electric and electronic devices that have become waste are called old devices. Owners of such old devices have to bring these to recycling facilities, where these are handled and recorded separately from urban solid waste. Old devices must not end up in the household refuse. In fact, they have to be collected in special collecting and recycling systems.
