Designated use

The MiniCODERs are only intended to be used for measuring tasks in the industrial
and commercial sectors. They are intended to be used for the contactless measure-
ment of rotary and linear movements predominantly in machines, gears, motors or
high-speed spindles. Positions, angles or rotational speeds can be measured using
these devices. They are installed in a machine/plant and need to be connected to
special evaluation electronics that are contained, for instance, in a rotational speed
control or a positioning control. The MiniCODERs are only allowed to be operated
taking into account the technical data defined in this operating instructions. They are
only allowed to be operated while following these operating instructions and the refer-
ence documents. Any other use is not considered to be designated use.

Notes for operators and manufacturers

Personnel training
The following requirements must be met:
 Assembly, operation, maintenance and removal tasks are performed by trained
and qualified skilled personnel or are checked by a responsible specialist.
 Personnel has received training in electromagnetic compatibility and in handling
electrostatic-sensitive devices.
 Provide personnel with all applicable accident prevention and safety regulations.
 Make sure that personnel is familiar with all applicable accident prevention and
safety regulations.
2.3

Magnetic field

The MiniCODER measuring surface has a permanent magnet.
This magnet creates a magnetic field, which also exists when
the MiniCODER is in de-energized condition.
The magnetic field can have serious negative health effects on
persons with implants.
 Ensure that there is at least 30 cm spacing between the im-
plants and the products.
The magnetic field can attract ferromagnetic objects. Keep fin-
gers or skin outside the feed area to avoid crushing and minor
skin injuries.
 Exercise caution when approaching the MiniCODER to
metallic objects. Hold the MiniCODER in such a way as to
avoid crushing of fingers or skin.
