Emergency Rescue Device 1 Emergency Rescue Device The Smartrise Emergency Rescue Device (ERD) is an emergency battery backup power supply that continuously monitors the mainline for power loss. If power loss is detected, the ERD disconnects the mainline from the elevator and generates enough power to move the elevator to the nearest floor (in the direction it is selected to run) and opens the door to rescue people.
