COMSPHERE Models 3810 and 3820 Hardware Revision
Document Number 3810-A2-GK40-00
September 1996
Description
To improve resistance to damage from lightning, two generally disused circuits
were removed from the Model 3810 and 3820 modems. These circuits permitted
a programmable transmit level and MI/MIC (Mode Indicate and Mode Indicate
Common) dialing. Both features are still available on the Model 3811 modem.
The configuration options Dial TX Level (in the Dial Line group of the Configure
branch) and MI/MIC Dialing (in the Line Dialer group of the Configure branch) are
affected, as are the AT command equivalents &J and S83. File this notice with
your copy of the COMSPHERE 3800 Series Modems Models 3810, 3811, and
3820 User's Guide (Document No. 3810-A2-GB30-10).
Changes to Configuration Options
MI/MIC Dialing: Disable
End Disable Enable
MI/MIC Dialing. Also known as D-Lead signaling, is required by some PBX systems,
older data phones, and security callback systems. It forces the modem into the
originate handshake after first dialing a call.
Disable – Modem ignores activity on the MI/MIC contacts.
Enable – Model 3811 modems only. When the MI/MIC leads are connected then
disconnected, the modem goes off-hook and looks for the answer sequence from the
remote modem. If the sequence is detected, the local modem handshakes and
connects with the remote modem. A 26-pin D-Lead control connector is located on the
rear of the 3000 Series Carrier for MI/MIC Dialing.
The factory default is Disable.
AT command is S-register S83= n , where n is 0 for Disable and 1 for Enable.
