The autofocus mechanism is designed to focus the majority of subjects, and in most cases it will
perform this function very well. When centered in the viewfinder, most subjects present no prob¬
lems for the system.
There are some subjects, however, which must be manually focused. They are:
1
Subjects with little or no reflectance (e.g., black hair,
black curtains, fire, fireworks, etc.)
2
Subjects with very glossy or shiny surfaces (e.g., the
exterior of a car, glass, etc.)
3
Subjects with an object in front of them (e.g., an
animal in a cage).
Subjects which divide the autofocus area horizontally
into one very dark and one very light section.
Focusing Subjects which Require Special Attention
When panning (moving the camera in a horizontal direction to follow a moving subject or to cover
a wide area) in low-light conditions, autofocusing is not recommended. This is especially true
when the zoom lens is set to telephoto.
In this case, first focus the subject manually or use one-shot AF. Then shoot the scene, panning
as desired.
