When using the machine the safety rules must be followed. For your own safety and bystanders please read these instructions before operating the machine. Do not use the machine without reading the instruction sheet. Please keep the instructions safe for later use.
TO AVOID ELECTRICAL HAZARDS, FIRE HAZARDS, OR DAMAGE TO THE TOOL, USE PROPER CIRCUIT PROTECTION. YOUR GRASS TRIMMER IS WIRED AT THE FACTROY FOR 120 V OPERATION. CONNECT TO A 120 V, 15 A CIRCUIT, AND USE A 15 A TIME-DELAYED FUSE OR CIRCUIT BIREAKER. TO AVOID SHOCK OR FIRE, IF THE EXTENSION CORD IS WORN, CUT OR DAMAGED IN ANY WAY, REPLACE IT IMMEDIATELY.
This grass trimmer has a plug that looks like the one shown in Fig. 1
The grass trimmer is double insulated to provide a double thickness of insulation between you and the tool's electrical system. All exposed metal parts are isolated from the internal metal motor components with protective insulation.
USE ONLY IDENTIFICAL REPLACEMENT PARTS WHEN SERVICING THE GRASS TRIMMER, TO AVOID INJURY.
DOUBLE INSULATION DOES NOT TAKE THE PLACE OF NORMAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WHEN OPERATING THIS GRASS TRIMMER
TO AVOID ELECTROCUTION:
IN THE EVENT OF A MALFUNCTION OR BREAKDOWN, grounding provides the path of least resistance for electric current, and reduces the risk of electric shock. This tool is equipped with a POLARIZED plug. The plug MUST be plugged into a matching grounded extension cord in accordance with All local codes and ordinances.
DO NOT MODIFY THE PLUG PROVIDED. If it will not fit the properly grounded extension cord, have the proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.
ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT YOUR OUTLET IS PROPERLY GROUNDED. IF UNCERTAIN, HAVE IT CHECKED BY A CERTIFIED ELECTRICIAN.
THIS GRASS TRIMMER IS FOR OUTDOOR USE ONLY. DO NOT EXPOSE TO RAIN OR USE IN DAMP LOCATIONS.
USE THE PROPER EXTENSION CORD. Make sure your extension cord is in good condition. When using an extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw. An undersized cord will cause overheating. The table below shows the correct size to use depending on cord length and nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt, use the next heavier gauge. The smaller the gauge number, the heavier the cord.
Minimum Gauge for Extension Cords (AWG)
(when using 120 V only)
Ampere Rating | Total Length of Cord in Feet (meters) | ||||
More Than | Not More Than | 25' (7.6 m) | 50' (15 m) | 100' (30.4 m) | 150' (45.7 m) |
0 | 6 | 18 | 16 | 16 | 14 |
6 | 10 | 18 | 16 | 14 | 12 |
10 | 12 | 16 | 16 | 14 | 12 |
12 | 16 | 14 | 12 | Not Recommended |
Make sure your extension cord is properly wired and in good electrical condition. Always replace a damaged extension cord or have it repaired by a qualified person before ues. Keep extension cords away from sharp objects, excessive heat and damp or wet areas.
Use a separate electrical circuit for your tools. This circuit should comprise a wire of at least 12 gauge and should be protected with a 15 A time-delayed fuse. Before connecting the motor to the power line, make sure the switch is in the OFF position and the electric current is identical to that stamped on the motor nameplate. Running at a lower voltage will damage the motor.
ALTHOUGH THIS GRASS TRIMMER IS DOUBLE INSULATED, THE EXTENSION CORD AND RECEPTACLE MUST STILL BE GROUNDED WHILE IN USE TO PROTECT THE OPERATOR FROM ELECTRICAL SHOCK.
Some of the following symbols may be used on this product. Please study them and learn their meaning. Proper interpretation of these symbols will allow you to operate the product better and safer.
(Fig. 2)
The safe use of this product requires an understanding of the information on the product and in this operator's manual as well as a knowledge of the project you are attempting. Before use of this product, familiarize yourself with all operating features and safety rules.
This portable hand held grass trimmer is powered by an electrical motor.
This trimmer features a single line bump feed head that is used for safe and efficient grass cutting. After the safety guard is installed it will protect the user during trimming operations.
The following describes the functions of the operating parts.
Carefully unpack the trimmer and check that it is complete:
Always disconnect from power source before working on the trimmer. Wait until motor has completely stopped before attempting any maintenance. There is danger of electric shock and the possibility of injury by the rotating trimmer line unless motor has stopped rotating.
NOTE: Once the lower and upper sections of the trimmer has been assembled, they can not be seperated.
Danger of injury!
Never use the trimmer without its safety guard. Always check the operability of the trimmer before it is used. Check that the mains voltage is the same as indicated on the rating plate. Always wear goggles when working with the trimmer.
NOTE: Once the lower and upper sections of the trimmer has been assembled, they can not be seperated.
(Fig. 5)
After the trimmer has been switched off the cutting head will continue to rotate for a few seconds. Keep hands and feet well away.
The ON / OFF switch must not be locked in place. The trimmer must not be used if the switch is damaged. There is the immediate danger of injury if the motor does not switch off after the ON /OFF switch has been released.
NOTE: Always remove grass residue from cutter so that the cutting effect is not impaired.
(Fig. 6)
In order to advance a length of trimmer line, firmly tap the bump cap on the lawn while the trimmer is running. This will automatically advance a new length of trimmer line and trim the line to the correct length. A firm but gentle motion should be used when tapping the bump cap on the lawn.
This advancing process may be repeated as often as necessary. Never try to advance the line on a hard surface such as a sidewalk or driveway. If unit fails to advance, unplug power from trimmer and clean the bump cap both inside and out.
Pull the flower guard out of the trimmer head (Fig.7). If the flower guard is no longer required, it can be pushed in again (park position).
The grass trimmer is equipped with a flower guard that can be lowered to push flowers away from the cutting line so they are protected (Fig.8). The flower guard is an indicator of the maximum cutting range of the line.
Danger of injury!
Never attempt to lock the trigger lever in the on position.
Always disconnect the plug from the power source before working on the trimmer.
Any work that is not described in these Instructions must be carried out by a servicing agency authorized by us. Only use original parts and be very careful with the line cutter during installation work. Danger of injury!
Disconnect the plug from the power source after every use and check the grass trimmer for damaged parts.
Do not jet water onto the trimmer and do not clean it under flowing water. This would result in the danger of an electric shock and the trimmer could be damaged. Always keep the trimmer clean. Do no use cleaning agents and solvents.
Part # RS0202
To replace trimmer spool - using index finger and thumb firmly squeeze the two serrated tabs found on trimmer spool head as shown. Enough pressure will release the spool cover exposing the trimmer spool.
Remover the spool cover and remove the empty spool.
At this time the spool can either be re-filled using 0.065" trimmer line or a replacement spool (part #RS0202) can be installed.
To install new spool, simply place new spool in spool head knob side facing up and feed the loose end of the trimmer line through the round steel eyelet on spool head. The line should be free. Align the spool cover and snap into place. Follow the advancing line procedures in earlier section of this manual.
