NOTE:
You do not have to remove the heat sink before you remove the system board.
Before removing the heat sink, follow these steps:

Prepare the computer for disassembly (see

Remove the bottom cover (see

Remove the battery (see
Remove the heat sink:
1.
UMA models: In the order indicated on the heat sink, remove the four Phillips M2.0 × 3.0 screws (1)
that secure the heat sink to the computer, and then remove the heat sink (2).
2.
Discrete models: In the order indicated on the heat sink, remove the seven Phillips M2.0 × 3.0
screws (1) that secure the heat sink to the computer, and then remove the heat sink (2).
3.
Thoroughly clean the thermal material from the surfaces of the heat sink and the system board
components each time the heat sink is removed. Replacement thermal material is included with the
heat sink spare part kit and is also available using spare part number N87234-001. The following
illustration shows the replacement thermal material location.
Thermal paste (1) and thermal pads (2) are used on the heat sink as shown in the following
illustrations.
