Mode Switcher
The Mode Switcher allows you to change what the center section does based upon which mode is selected. The
modes include FX, EQ, LOOP, TRIG, and VINYL. The DECK button allows you to switch to another virtual deck, in
a sense giving you 2 decks of control with one DaScratch. When switching decks, you will be in "Deck B" which will
be illuminated on the top of the unit. When selecting different modes, the center section will change its functionality.
Center Section
The Center Section has 3 main modes; Slider, Circle, and Button mode. The following diagrams show how each
mode is set up, and what it can be used for in an application. The buttons around the circular center section will
always act as triggers regardless of which mode the center section is in. Within each mode, the center section and
4 buttons around it will change their MIDI messages so buttons / sliders within each mode can map to separate
functions in the DJ software without conflict.
Slider mode
Used in: EQ and FX
Used for: Control of knobs and sliders.
Slider mode gives the user 3 variable controls, which can be used by sliding your
finger up and down the areas next to the 3 LED meter bars. A slider may be
changed by dragging a finger across the surface, or you may place your finger in
an absolute position on the slider and its position will jump immediately to that
point. 2 fingers may be used to trigger from one position to the next. For instance,
holding one finger on the bottom of a slider and tapping the top with a second
finger will make the position update to the top of control for as long as the second
finger is held on the surface. Once the second finger is released, the control will
jump back to the first fingers position.
Circle mode
Used in: VINYL
Used for: Control of knobs and sliders.
In Circle mode there is one slider in the center of the surface and a circular slider
going around the perimeter of the surface. The outer ring and inner slider will work
in absolute mode when using the generic preset, and just like with the slider
mode, you may perform finger jumps to quickly change a parameter in real time.
Circle Mode is the "default" mode of DaScratch. That is to say that if you plug
DaScratch into your computer without using the DaRouter software, it will operate
in Circle mode. But keep in mind that without DaRouter, Mode Selector buttons
(Vinyl, EQ, Loop, etc) will only send note data and will not change the operation
of DaScratch. You will need to run the DaRouter software in order to utilize that
functionality.
Button mode
Used in: LOOP and TRIG
Used for: Control of buttons and notes.
In Button mode, the zones highlighted in the diagram to the left will act as triggers
to control buttons in an application. For example, these functions could be
assigned to loop lengths or cue points in a DJ application. Multiple buttons may
be pressed at once when button mode is in use.
Transport Section
The Transport Section consists of four push button
switches labeled PLAY, CUE, SYNC, and TAP.
These buttons do not change functionality when the
Mode Switcher is used and are intended to be
mapped towards functions in the application which
you always need access to such as transport
controls.
