Installing DaRouter Software
To get the most out of DaScratch, we combine it with some special software
called DaRouter (see a theme here?). DaRouter is like a little brain for
DaScratch, unlocking its full potential to do amazing things with applications.
DaRouter is a real time, high-speed logic engine that was designed to grow,
not just always act the way it was born. Controls coming from DaScratch are
processed through the DaRouter and sent along to the application via a
virtual MIDI driver. In this way, DaRouter can not only change the messages
coming from the unit but can also change how the unit responds to the
application. The coolest part about DaRouter is that it is powered by the
industry leading "Borne's Midi Translator" which actually allows for all of the
logic in DaRouter to be modified by means of a single preset file.
DaRouter software and application presets are available as free downloads from the Stanton website. Perform
the following steps to install DaRouter and presets on your computer:
1. Download DaRouter off of Stanton's website at the following location: www.stantondj.com/dascratch
2. Install DaRouter
In Windows XP / Vista
Double click the DaRouter setup file, and follow the instructions provided in the Stanton DaRouter Setup Wizard.
Towards the end of the installation, Windows will ask you to install a driver. Accept, and if prompted choose
"Continue Anyway."
In OSX
Double click the DaRouter.dmg file. Then, just drag the DaRouter icon into your Applications folder.
3. With your DaScratch connected to your computer, start the DaRouter software by double clicking its icon.
Using DaRouter
When using DaRouter, there are two basic types of presets that you may utilize; generic and application specific.
The generic preset allows you to configure the application to DaScratch through conventional MIDI Learn.
However, the application specific presets are designed to work specifically with certain applications and provide
logic in DaScratch that is focused towards that application.
Using Application Specific Presets
If you already have a DJ application installed on your computer, chances are, there is already a preset available
for it. The presets are updated as applications add new features, and it's always suggested to use the provided
preset first, over trying to MIDI Learn the functionality yourself. If you are going to use an application specific
preset, you do not need to read the below sections about the generic preset or MIDI Learn. If you are looking to
try an application with DaScratch, some demo versions are available on the Stanton website.
1. Go to www.stantondj.com/dascratch and check for the latest preset for your application. You may also
download demo applications from this location.
2. Download the preset. The presets will load by dragging them into DaRouter or by pressing open and browsing
to them manually.
3. Once you have loaded the preset in DaRouter, you'll be presented with a dialog that will ask if you would like
to read the included documentation. Read the documentation for information on how DaScratch works
specifically with your application as each preset implementation is different.
