Stabilized Tungsten-Halogen Light Source Chapter 1: Introduction Introduction 1.1. Warning Symbol Definitions Below is a list of warning symbols you may encounter in this manual or on your device. Danger, Warning, or Caution Hot Surface Shock Warning The CE/UKCA markings on the product are the manufacturer's declaration that the product complies with the essential requirements of the relevant European health, safety, and environmental protection legislation.
Stabilized Tungsten-Halogen Light Source Chapter 2: Product Overview Product Overview 2.1. Planck's Law and Blackbody Radiation A black body is an object that absorbs all incident electromagnetic radiation (e.g., light), no light passes through or is reflected. However, despite the name, a black body will also emit electromagnetic radiation. The radiation of a black body in thermal equilibrium is described by Planck’s Law: 2ℎ...
Optical Configuration The SLS302 tungsten-halogen light source has a 150 W halogen lamp. The lamp is mounted inside the lamp housing, at the back focal point of the collimating lens, with the long axis of the filament parallel to the plano surface of the lens, giving a collimated output beam.

2.4. Output Stabilization Unlike traditional halogen light sources, the SLS302 source will not suffer either from a gradual decrease or short- term fluctuation in brightness during its lifetime. The SLS302 tungsten-halogen light source is equipped with an internal feedback loop and therefore can ensure constant intensity, low noise, and a long life span.

Stabilized Tungsten-Halogen Light Source Chapter 3: Getting Started 3.4. Setting Up on a Work Surface Take the lamp out of its packaging and place it onto a table top. All four feet are height adjustable to compensate for the unevenness of a work surface. To adjust the height, use the included 4 mm hex key to loosen and remove the caps on the screws.

Connecting Cables First, connect the lamp housing to the controller using the lamp control cable. Please note that there is an arrow marker on both the plug and the socket. Make sure these two markers are aligned as shown below, then lightly press the plug into the socket and turn the sleeve to secure the connection.
4.3. Stabilized Operation and Monitor Output The SLS302 has a stabilized operation feature that allow it to retain constant optical output throughout the life span of the lamp. However, the output power is NOT user adjustable. The “Analog out” port C9 on the pack panel of the controller provides a voltage output that is proportional to the lamp optical output power.
4.5. Lamp Position Adjustment Mechanism Besides the kinematic mirror mount, the SLS302 source has an XYZ manual translation stage built inside the lamp housing for lamp position adjustment, which can compensate for filament position deviations in different lamps. The Z Axis adjustment can also work as an additional collimation adjustment for the output beam.
Chapter 4: Operation 4.6. Application Idea There are four 4-40 threaded holes on the front panel of the lamp housing that allow for integration of Thorlabs’ 60 mm cage systems. Figure 19 shows an application idea with an attached 60 mm cage system.
Stabilized Tungsten-Halogen Light Source Chapter 5: Maintenance Maintenance 5.1. Fuse Replacement The fuse is located in the fuse drawer, C8, above the power inlet, as shown in Figure 11. Please use 3.15 A, 250 VAC, Type “T”, slow blow fuse only. 5.2.
