Troubleshooting
Operational Issue
The burner will not ignite, has an erratic
burner flame, or is sooting.
The water is too hot or is too cold.
There is excessive weeping coming from the
pressure/temperature (P/T) relief valve.
The gas/electric combination model
operates using gas but does not operate on
electric power.
The gas/electric combination model is not
operating while using either gas or electric
power.

Potential Reason
The air shutter requires adjustment.
The burner tube is blocked.
The burner tube is misaligned.
The flame spreader is misaligned.
The orifice is blocked.
The system has improper gas pressure or is using bad LP gas.
The gas solenoid valve is defective.
The U-tube is blocked or collapsed.
If the thermostat is set within the normal operating range, starting a
heating cycle at 120 °F (49 °C) ± 8 degrees and ending a heating
cycle at 140 °F (60 °C) ± 6 degrees, there is no operational issue.
The thermostat is out of calibration.
The thermostat is not seated on the tank correctly.
The thermostat is defective.
EXT models only: the mixing valve is defective.
EXT models only: the screen for the mixing valve is blocked.
The bypass kit is not set properly.
Some weeping or dripping occurs as the water heats up.
The thermal expansion air pocket needs to be re-established.
The P/T relief valve has been dry-fired or is defective.
The thermostat is defective or out of calibration.
The thermostat is not seated on the tank correctly.
There is no power going out to the relay from the control board.
There is power to the relay, but the relay is not closing.
The heating element is defective
The AC voltage is too low or absent.
The wall switch is defective.
The wall switch is wired incorrectly.
The wall switch is defective.
The wall switch is wired incorrectly.
The E.C.O. is in open circuit.
The thermostat is in open circuit.
The thermal cut-off is in open circuit.
The 2 A fuse on the control board is blown.
The control board is defective.
The DC voltage is too low or absent.
