8.33 Replacing the Thermocouple

Replacing the Thermocouple
1. Perform the steps in "Shutting Down the Water
Heater" on page 32.
2. Unscrew the existing thermocouple and pilot gas
line from the bottom of the gas valve.
3. Remove the screw from the bottom of the pilot
assembly bracket.
4. Remove the pilot assembly with the thermocouple
attached.
5. Unscrew the existing thermocouple from the pilot
assembly.
6. Install the new thermocouple by reversing steps 1–5.

To avoid damaging the thermocouple when
attaching it to the pilot assembly and gas valve,
hand-tighten the connection. Once attached,
secure the connection with a 1/4 turn using a
wrench.

warnings could result in death or serious
injury.
• Use only Dometic replacement parts and
components, which are specifically approved for use
with the appliance.
• Do not use matches, candles, or other sources of
ignition to test fittings and gas lines for leaks.
• Avoid improper installation, adjustment, alterations,
service, or maintenance of the appliance. Service
and maintenance must be done by a qualified service
person only.
• When performing any maintenance or care, shut
off the gas supply at the LP container before
disconnecting a gas line.
• Keep the control compartment clean and free of
gasoline, combustible material and any flammable
liquids and vapors.

During service of the controls, label all wires before
disconnecting any wires.

Verify proper operation after servicing.
The following maintenance and safety checks should
be performed once a year, or as needed, depending
on the use of the appliance. Failure to properly maintain
the appliance may void the warranty and could result in
unsafe operation. Preventive maintenance is not covered
under the warranty.
9.1 Cleaning the Mixing Valve
Screen

When necessary, clean the mixing valve screen.
1. Remove the mixing valve (refer to "Replacing the
Mixing Valve" on page 42).
2. Take out the screen.
3. Remove any debris restricting the water flow.
