Manual tilt Type
When operating in shallow water, tilt
the outboard motor, using the tilt

won't hit the bottom.

64
To tilt the outboard motor, move the
tilt lever to the TILT position, then
raise the outboard motor to the 22° or
37° position by pulling on the engine
cover grip.
Do not use the tiller handle as a lever
to raise the outboard motor.
Applying excessive force to the tiller
ENGINE
handle can damage it.
COVER
GRIP
While the outboard motor is tilted,
proceed at a low speed, and do not
operate the outboard motor in
reverse.
The outboard motor will rise
suddenly if operated in reverse.
Monitor water flow from the cooling
system indicator (p. 34) to be sure the
outboard motor is not tilted so high
that the water intakes are out of the
water.
An excessive trim/tilt angle during
operation can cause propeller
ventilation, overheating, and water
pump damage. This type of damage is
not covered by the Distributor's
Limited Warranty (U.S.) /
Distributor's Warranty (CA.) (p. 129).
