SERVICE AND REPAIR
The Type 4914 is designed and constructed to provide the user with many years of
reliable operation. However, like other light sources, the operating life of the Halogen
Lamp and the flash tube is not indefinite. With normal flash operation, their flash tube is
capable of providing approximately 38 million single flashes, which with a flash rate of
100 flashes per second is equivalent to over 90 hours of continuous operation. Similarly,
with single photo flash operation of the Type 4914, a tube life of approximately 1000
flashes can be expected. Since a normal clinical observation only uses the lamps for
very few minutes, a long stand time may be expected. The expected operating life time
of the Halogen Lamp is app. 50 h. A spare Halogen Lamp is fixed inside the Type 4914.
WARNING: The Type 4914 contains a number of high voltage storage capacitors which
can remain charged for approx. 30 s even when the Type 4914 is disconnected from the
mains supply. For replacement of the Halogen Lamp or of the Xenon flash tube assem-
bly without risk of personal injury, it is imperative that the appropriate instructions given
in the Service Manual be carefully observed.
Should the Type 4914 fail to operate correctly even after the flash tube has been re-
placed, it should be immediately disconnected from the mains supply and secured
against unintended operation. For repair consult the separate Service Manuals available
for the Type 4914 or contact your local B
&
K service representative. Under no circum-
stances should repair be attempted by persons not qualified in the service of electronic
instrumentation.
