ENGINE OIL

Engine Oil .
Good engine oil has many desirable quali-
ties. Use only high detergent, quality motor
oil certified on the container to meet or
exceed requirements for API Service
Classification SE, SF or SG.
Viscosity
Viscosity grade of engine oil should be
based on average atmospheric temperature
in your riding area. The following provides a
guide to the selection of the proper grade or
viscosity of oil to be used at various atmos-
pheric temperature in your riding area. The

Engine Oil and Filter
Eng ine oil quality is the chief factor affecting
engine life. Change the engine oil as speci-
fied in the maintenance schedule (page 51) .
Chang ing the oil filter requires a special oil
filter tool and a torque wrench. If you do not
have these tool s and the necessary skill, we
recom mend that you have your authorised
Honda dealer perform thi s service . If a
torq ue wrench is not used for this installa-
tion, see your authorised Honda dealer as
soon as possible to verify proper assembly.
NOTE:
• Change the engine oil with engine at nor-
mal operating temperature and the motor-
cycle on its side stand to assure complete
and rapid draining.
!CAUTION
I
• To prevent oil leaks and filter damage,
never support the engine on the oil filter.
