1. Move the key switch to the O
remove the key.
2. Measure the voltage of the battery with a
voltmeter.
3. Use the table below to locate the charge state
or the battery, and if needed, the battery-charger
setting and charging interval recommended to
charge the battery to 12.6 V or greater; refer to
the battery charge table below.
Important:
Make sure that the negative
battery cable is disconnected and the
battery charger used for charging the battery
has an output of 16 V and 7 A or less to
avoid damaging the battery (see chart for
recommended charger settings).

CAUTION
If the key switch is in the O
there is potential for sparks and
engagement of components. Sparks
could cause an explosion or moving
parts could accidentally engage, causing
personal injury.
Be sure key switch is in the O
before charging the battery.
4. If the positive cable is also disconnected,
connect the positive (red) cable to the positive
battery terminal and slip the terminal cover over
the positive terminal.
5. Remove the screw, washer, and ground cable
from the engine. Connect the negative battery
cable as shown in

Note:
If time does not permit charging the
battery or if charging equipment is not available,
connect the negative battery cables and run
the vehicle continuously for 20 to 30 minutes to
charge the battery.

No Parts Required
Procedure
The engine is shipped with oil; check the engine-oil
level and, if necessary, add oil to the appropriate level.
Refer to Checking the Engine-Oil Level (page 19)
instructions and the oil specification.
