Chapter 10 Periodic inspections

10-1 General

The crane should be kept in such a condition
as will assure the full performance of each crane
function. This is essential for both the assurance
of safety and high work efficiency.

10-2 Daily check

Each shift or at the beginning of each
working day, the following should be checked:
1. Ropes around pulley and drum for orderly
winding;
2. Visual check electric equipments, to make
sure there is no lubricating oil, grease, water or
dust on them;
3. All limiting devices or safety devices and
control levers for proper function;
4. Load moment indicator for proper
function;
5. Overloading limiter, which may indicate
working radius. Check the conformity of radius
indicated and the real one;
6. Air pressures in all pneumatic systems, e.g.
in brake, for correct readings;
7. Lamps, windshield wiper and washer for
normal operation;
8. Visual check wheels and tires for safety
conditions;
9. Check all control systems with no load on
the crane for proper function;
10. Check all audible warning devices for
normal operation;
11. With safety and fire prevention taken into
consideration, check if the crane lies in a clean
environment and far away from oil tank, waste
materials, tools or materials, except where there is
protective measures taken for them; check access
to make sure it is free of obstruction, and related
fire-fighting devices are required;
12. Prior to operating the crane, check brakes
and clutch for proper function;
13. Check hoses in hydraulic circuit and
pneumatic circuit for abnormal bending and wear;
14. Before operation, make sure that there is
no plug inserted in equipment or control device or
wiring.
