Changing
the Engine
Oil
Theoil inthe engine shouldbe changedevery25 hoursof operation.
1.
Togain accessto the oil drain valveon the engine,the right
handlebracetube shouldbe pivotedforward.
a.
Removetheupper star knoband carriagescrewon the right
sideof the handle,Figure11.
b.
Pivotthe bracetubetowardsthe front of the mowerto allow
roomto connectthe oil drain hoseto theoil drain valve,
Figure11.

Pop off the protectivecap on the end of the oil drainvalveto
exposethedrain port, Figure12.

drain port. Routethe oppositeend of the hoseintoan appropriate
oil collectioncontainerwith a capacitygreatenoughto collectthe
usedoil.
5.
Releasethe valveby pressingthe two tabs inwardwhilepulling
the valveout. The oil willbegin to drain outof the engine.
6.
After the oil hasfinisheddraining,pressthe two tabs inwardand
pushthe oil drainvalve back in to lock the valveclosed. Remove
the hose,and re-captheend of the oil drain valveto keepdebris
from enteringthe drain port.
7.
Refillthe enginewith newmotoroil untilthe oil levelon the
dipstick readsFULL.Replacetheoil fill cap/dipstick.
8.
Pivotthe righthandlebracetube backinto position.Align the
middlehole in the bracetube with the hole in the handle.Secure
with the star knoband carriagescrewremovedearlier.
Onlyusehigh quality detergent o il ratedwith API serviceclas-
sificationSF or SG. Selectthe oil'sSAE viscositygradeaccording
to yourexpectedoperatingtemperature, F igure13.Although
multi-viscosity oils(5W30, 10W30etc.) improvestartingin cold
weather,these multi-viscosity oils will resultin increasedoil con-
sumptionwhenusedabove32°E Checkyourengineoil levelmore
frequentlyto avoidpossibleenginedamagefrom runninglowon oil.
