Sonos Loudspeaker Setup Guide
Break-In Period
We strongly advise that you do not play your speakers at their full capabilities, or experiment
with critical placement and listening, until the speakers have been properly broken in. The break-
in period should last approximately 50 to 100 hours of music playback. To break your speakers in
quickly, you can simply leave a music queue playing in "repeat" mode. For best results, choose
music with a wide dynamic range.
Cabinet Care
Household cleaners or solvents can damage the finish on your speakers. Clean only with a dry
soft cloth.
Amplifier Requirements
Sonos Loudspeakers were specifically designed for the Sonos ZonePlayer. A Sonos ZonePlayer
properly connected to your speakers may be played at maximum volume for extended periods
of time with no damage to either the ZonePlayer or the speakers.
If a receiver or an amplifier other than the Sonos ZonePlayer is used to drive the speakers, be
certain that the amplifier is rated to handle 4-ohm loads. Do not over-drive the amplifier, as it
could cause damage to your speakers that is not covered under the Sonos warranty (see
Warning below).
Warning: If an amplifier is over-driven, the resulting distortion may be many times
greater than the amplifier's rated power. When an amplifier is over-driven, the
distorted sound is referred to as "clipping". On many amplifiers and receivers, rated
power is reached with the volume control only at the halfway position, with any
further increase in the volume resulting in clipping. Increasing treble and bass controls
at high volume levels can also increase power output well beyond the amplifier's rated
power. The warranty on your speakers is void if the voice coils are burned or damaged
as a result of overpowering or clipping.
Original Packaging Materials
Please retain the carton and packing material for your speakers to protect them in the event of a
move, or if they need to be shipped to a service center.
If you ship your speakers to a service center in something other than the original packaging, your
speakers will be repaired, refurbished, and properly packaged for return shipment at your
expense.
