the paper feeds under the first roller (with the 3 traction wheels) then under the bar, but stops as it does under the second roller (just before the upper folder plate). I've tried to add an image it's not being accepted

Paper stopping under the second roller on a Formax FD 300 could be caused by:
1. Incorrectly inserted or misaligned fold plates — ensure upper and lower plates are correctly seated on their alignment pins. 2. Improper fold stop positions — check that fold stops match the guide and thumbscrews are tightened. 3. Paper jam — turn off the machine, remove fold plates, clear any jammed paper, and reinstall plates. 4. Use of glossy or thick paper — friction-feed rollers may not grip glossy paper well. 5. Dirty rollers — clean rollers to remove dust or ink. 6. Incorrect outfeed wheel adjustment — adjust wheels for the specific fold type and paper size.

The Formax FD 300 does not specifically mention settings for thicker paper in the provided context. However, to reduce the risk of crumbling or jamming, follow these steps:
1. Ensure Proper Setup – Place the FD 300 on a sturdy, level surface and check that all components are properly installed. 2. Adjust Fold Plates Correctly – Use the pre-marked fold settings for the paper size being used. 3. Feed Paper Smoothly – Ensure paper is properly aligned in the infeed tray and not overloaded. 4. Reduce Paper Stack Size – Load fewer sheets at a time to prevent excessive pressure on the feed mechanism. 5. Monitor Operation – If paper jams, switch off the machine, unplug it, and remove jammed sheets carefully. 6. Check for Proper Voltage – Use the required 120V power supply to ensure consistent operation.
If problems persist, contact Formax for assistance.
