MAINTENANCE

Preparing for Maintenance

IMPORTANT: Before tipping the mower to change
the oil or replace the blade, allow the fuel tank to run
dry through normal usage. If you must tip the mower
prior to running out of fuel, use a hand fuel pump to
remove the fuel. Always tip the mower onto its side,
with the dipstick down.
WARNING: Tipping the mower may cause the fuel to
leak. Fuel is fl ammable and explosive and can cause
personal injury.
1. Shut off the engine and wait for all moving parts to
stop.
2. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark
plug.
3. After performing the maintenance procedure (s),
connect the spark plug wire to the spark plug.

Air Filter Service

WARNING: Never start and run the engine with the
air fi lter removed.
NOTE: Do not use pressurised air or solvents to clean
the fi lter. Pressurised air can damage the fi lter and

solvents will dissolve the fi lter.
1. Press down on the latch tabs, on top of the air-
fi lter cover.
2. Open the cover (1).
3. Remove the paper air fi lter (2) and the foam pre-
fi lter (3).
4. Inspect the foam pre-fi lter, and replace it if it is
damaged or excessively dirty.
5. Inspect the paper air fi lter.
• If the air fi lter is damaged or is wet with oil or
fuel, replace it.
• If the air fi lter is dirty, tap it on a hard surface
several times.
NOTE: Do not brush the dirt off the fi lter; brushing
forces dirt into the fi bers.
6. Remove the dirt from the air-fi lter body and the
cover, using a moist rag.
IMPORTANT: Do not wipe dirt into the air duct.
7.
Install the paper air fi lter (2) and the foam pre-fi lter
(3) into the air fi lter.

8. Install the cover (1).
