6. Operating the
appliance
6.1

Cooking

FIRE HAZARD! Before turning the
device on, place it on a level, sta-
ble, dry, heat-resistant surface.
DANGER! Risk of injury
through burning!
The surfaces of the device become
very hot during operation. While
the device is in operation, only
touch the control knob|7, lid han-
dle|2 or device handles|4.
1. Put the food in the cooking pot|3.
2. Add at least 1 cup of liquid.
- Beans and hard vegetables such as
carrots or potatoes should always be
completely covered with water while
cooking.
- For best results, fill the cooking pot
about half full.
- The cooking pot|3 should contain at
least 1|litre and at most 3|litres of
food including the liquid.
3. Stand the cooking pot|3 in the base|5.
4. Place the lid|1 on the cooking pot|3.
5. Insert the plug into a suitable earthed
socket.
6. Turn the control knob|7 to your chosen
setting:
"HIGH": For cooking at the highest tem-
perature
"LOW": For cooking at the lowest tem-
perature
"AUTO": To begin cooking at the high-
est temperature and thereafter at a low
temperature
7. The indicator light|6 will come on and
the appliance will begin heating up.
6.2
Checking whether the
food is cooked
• Avoid lifting the lid of the pot while
cooking is in progress. Every time you
open the lid adds to the necessary cook-
ing time.
• You should therefore check that the food
is cooked only towards the end of the
cooking time.
6.3

Ending operation

DANGER! Risk of injury
through burning!
The surfaces of the device become
very hot during operation. While
the device is in operation, only
touch the control knob|7, lid han-
dle|2 or device handles|4.
1. At the end of the cooking time, turn the
control knob|7 to "OFF".
2. Remove the cooking pot|3 and the
cooked food.
While the cooker|3 is in use, al-
ways use potholders or oven
gloves to grasp it.
3. Clean the appliance carefully after use
(see "Cleaning" on page 11).
6.4

Thermal cut-out

The appliance is protected against overheat-
ing. The appliance will switch off automati-
cally if at any time there is no more water in
the cooking pot|3 and the temperature has
become too high.
• If this happens, disconnect the appli-
ance from the power supply and allow
it to cool down.
• You can subsequently start the appli-
ance up again in the usual way.
