Safety Considerations WARNING! INSTALLATION OF ANY ANTENNA NEAR POWER LINES IS DANGEROUS Warning: Do not locate the antenna near overhead power lines or other electric light or power circuits, or where it can come into contact with such circuits. When installing the antenna, take extreme care not to come into contact with such circuits, because they may cause serious injury or death.
  • Page 6 Note: The following assembly instructions are based on building a 10 meter single band dipole antenna using the DXE-RDPK-15-6 single band antenna kit. Optional items used include a DX Engineering Coax Strain Relief, Rope, DX Engineering RG-8X Coaxial Cable assembly, Jet-Lube SS-30 for the stainless steel hardware and weatherproofing materials for coaxial connectors.
  • Page 7 Cutting Antenna Wire Lengths for a Desired Center Frequency This example is for a 10 meter dipole with the resonant point at 28.4 MHz. Therefore the wires included with the DXE-RDPK-15-6 are to be cut to the lengths listed 11 Feet (3.5m) each (make two of them). In this example of a 10 meter dipole with a resonant point of 28.4 MHz, the finished length of each dipole leg should be 8 feet, 3 inches (2.51m) and overall dipole length from end insulator to end insulator should be 16 feet, 6 inches (5.03m).
  • Page 8 Dipole Wires and End Insulators The End Insulators are installed at the far ends of the dipole wires. One on each wire end. Route the dipole wire in a serpentine manner as shown below. Note the wire enters the End Insulator at the cupped area. At this point, do not cut the length of the dipole legs shorter.

The instructions for assembly and mounting the Coax Cable Strain Relief to the Balun Mounting Bracket are included with the Coax Cable Strain Relief kit (they can also be seen on-line at DX Engineering.com). Other Support Options If you have the room and can install three telescoping poles, use a longer one for the center to install the Balun Mounting Bracket and for the dipole ends two other telescoping pole as well.

Weatherproof the Coax Connector The PL-259 connector should be properly weatherproofed after installing the coax cable to the Balun. Use of the DX Engineering Coaxial Connection Weatherproofing Kit DXE-WPCC88-1 is recommended (https://www.dxengineering.com/parts/dxe-wpcc88-1). If, at a later date, you decided to replace the coax cable, removal of the weatherproofing is easy and leave no mess on the PL-259 connector or Balun SO-239 connection.
  • Page 11: Common Questions And Answers

Common Questions and Answers Q: Does the dipole have to be straight i.e.: flat top? A: No, the dipole antenna does not have to be what is referred to as flat top. The ends can slope downward. An inverted-vee can have each leg angled down from the feedpoint at a 22 to 45 degree angle from horizontal, with corresponding tuned resonant lengths that are about 2 to 5% shorter for the inverted-vee than a horizontal dipole which will reduce the overall physical length needed to hang the dipole.
