INTERRUPTS

North Star HSIO-4
In a multi-user environment, interrupts
relieve the processor of the task of polling
each peripheral device to see if it is ready
to transmit or receive data. Different
events generate different interrupt
requests. One interrupt request, for
example, is generated when the USART has
finished sending a byte and is ready to send
another; another interrupt request is
generated when a byte is ready to be
received by the processor.
Each HSIO-4 port provides four interrupt
sources. Three may be armed and disarmed under
program control; the fourth. Synchronous
Detect, is armed by a jumper on the HSIO-4
board.
Consult Section 3.4 for instructions
on how to program the interrupts and connect
interrupt sources to the S-100 bus interrupt
lines.
