Connecting the energizer to the
electric fence
The energizer may be hung directly on the electric fence wire
using the fence wire clip, or mounted on a stand with the
energizer connected to the electric fence wire using the
yellow fence lead.
1
Try to position the energizer as near as possible to the
centre of the electric fence. Attach the energizer
directly to the electric fence wire using the fence wire
clip, or mount the energizer on the stand then
connect the yellow fence lead to the fence output
terminal on the top of the energizer and clip the other
end onto the electric fence wire.
2
Connect the green earth lead to a portable earth rod.
This can be a metal, tread-in electric fence post.
Alternatively, if the energizer is on a mounting stand,
the mounting stand can be used as an earth rod.
3
Ensure that the energizer, earth rod and all
connections are protected from interference by
animals.

Caution!
When using an external battery, ensure that the
battery is at least 1 m (3') away from and not directly below
the energizer to avoid possible damage to the energizer.
Operation
Select the pulse speed setting using the Selector switch.
Setting
Pulse speed
(1) Slow
Approximately 2½ seconds between
pulses
(2) Fast
Approximately 1½ seconds between
pulses

Tip:
Use (2) Fast for training animals that have not
experienced electric fences before. Use (1) Slow for normal
operation, to conserve battery power.
The pulse indicator light flashes each time the energizer
pulses. An excessively slow pulse speed indicates that
battery power is low.
Battery management

Caution!
To avoid damaging the energizer, remove the
1.5 V batteries when they are discharged and when storing
the energizer.
Battery management for an external battery
Warning!
Batteries contain harmful chemicals and
when used incorrectly, may cause injury. Observe the
guidelines for battery care, maintenance and safety in
this manual and in the documentation supplied with
your battery.
Battery charging
Warning!
-
Do not attempt to recharge a non-rechargeable
battery.
-
When recharging a battery, ensure that there is
adequate ventilation to allow gases to disperse.
Regular recharging of the battery is essential. Use a suitably
rated battery charger and refer to the battery manufacturer's
recommendations.
1
Attach the positive (+) battery charger lead to the
positive terminal of the battery, and the negative (–)
battery charger lead to the negative terminal on the
battery.
2
Insert the battery charger's input power plug into a
mains or line socket and turn on the power supply.
Caution!
Over-charging the battery will reduce its life. Do
not exceed the recommendations of the battery
manufacturer on recharging the battery from a mains-
powered (line-powered) source.
Battery care and maintenance
House the battery in a suitably designed battery box,
if the battery is likely to be exposed to the weather.
When not in use, store the battery fully charged and
recharge at regular intervals (every 8 weeks).
Recharge a discharged battery as soon as possible.
Batteries should not be left discharged.
