TIG OPERATION

Operation
Before starting any welding activity ensure
that you have suitable eye protection and
protective clothing. Also take the necessary
steps to protect any persons within the area.
Plug the earth clamp lead in to the '+' terminal,
and secure the earth clamp to the workpiece.
For good contact, the earth clamp must be
attached to clean bare metal. Clean with a wire
brush where necessary.
Connect a regulator to a bottle of Argon gas
(both not supplied) then connect the gas
connection from the TIG torch to the regulator.
Plug the TIG torch (not suppled) lead to the '-'
terminal. For a diagram on the lead installation
please see page 23.
Press the MIG/MMA/TIG switch to MMA mode,
Fig.36. The indicator light should be illuminated
next to MMA.

Connect to the mains supply and press the
On/Off switch (Fig.37) to the ON position (l) to
stop the machine press the On/Off switch to the
OFF position (0).

Turn on the cylinder gas valve and adjust the
flow regulator to obtain desired flow.
Set the desired amperage on the current control
dial on the front panel of the welder (Fig.38).

Adjust the welding current according to the
thickness of the work piece to be welded (for a
guide to welding parameters, please refer to the
table below.

Warning! Always wear a full face mask, welding
gloves and protective clothing. Wear goggles
while chipping slag.
Do not switch on the power supply until you are
ready to start welding. Practice welding on a
piece of scrap material.
Press the trigger on the TIG torch, allowing gas
to flow from the torch nozzle. Cover your face
with the head shield, bring the torch to within
3-4mm of the work, and at an angle of 45°, so
that the ceramic nozzle gently touches the work
surface.
