TIG TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem
Dirty weld pool.
Poor weld finish.
Arc start is not
smooth.
Arc flutters during TIG
welding.
Possible Cause
Electrode contaminated by
contact with work piece or filler
rod material.
Work piece surface has foreign
material on it.
Gas contaminated with air.
Inadequate shielding gas.
Tungsten electrode is too large
for the welding current.
The wrong electrode is being
used for the welding job.
Gas flow rate is too high.
Incorrect shielding gas is being
used.
Poor work clamp connection to
work piece.
Tungsten electrode is too large
for the welding current.
Remedy
Clean the electrode by grinding off the
contaminates.
Clean surface.
Check gas lines for cuts and loose
fitting or change gas cylinder.
Increase gas flow or check gas line for
gas flow problems.
Select the right size tungsten electrode.

Select the right tungsten electrode

Select the right rate for the welding job.
