USER MANUAL Setting Up the Drive The installation CD contains the Retrospect Express backup software as well as important drivers for your WD Dual-option drive. Carefully follow the appropriate procedure for your operating system. Windows 98SE/Me/2000/XP 1. Insert the installation CD into your CD-ROM drive. The program will autorun and display a setup menu.

5. Launch Retrospect Express from the Start menu. Go to Start > Program Files > Retrospect > Retrospect 6.5. The software immediately asks you for a license code. Since your Western Digital edition is pre-licensed (for supported operating systems only), the license code field will already be completed. Click OK.

The FAT32 file system has a maximum file transfer of 4 GB and cannot create partitions larger than 32 GB.

Note: Do not force the media into the slot. If the media does not insert properly, you may need to reinsert it with the gold connector end facing the top of the unit.

Note: Retrospect Express is designed to duplicate your selected files for easy and convenient backup.

Windows users and Mac OS 9.x users: By default, the software will copy Documents Only which includes your work documents, music, and pictures (not the operating system or applications). This is the ideal choice for most users. To create a backup that includes restoration of your operating system and programs, download the WD knowledge base article ID# 1270 at support.wdc.com.

Please read carefully and make your selection to Cancel or Proceed. 4. Select the drive on which to store your backup files. By default, the WD Dual-option drive on which the button was pressed is selected as the destination. Click Next.

If you have previously used the Backup On Demand wizard, it displays a summary of your existing choices with a ten second countdown to accept the current settings. Click Modify to go back to the Western Digital Backup On Demand wizard where you can choose to copy the media.
