Certain modem values, or parameters, are stored in memory locations called S-Registers. Use the S command to
read or to alter the contents of S-Registers (see previous section).
Notes:
Range and Default are dependent upon the Country Code you are using.
The ranges and defaults below are for North America and Europe.
Examples of other country ranges and defaults are given at the end of this chapter.

Description
Sets the number of rings until the modem answers.
ATS0=0 disables autoanswer completely. Set S0=2 for Caller
ID. Internal Modem Default is 0. External Modem Default is 1
Counts the rings that have occurred.
Sets ASCII code for the escape sequence character. Values
greater than 127 disable escape.
Sets the ASCII code for the carriage return character.
Sets the ASCII code for line feed character.
Sets the ASCII code for the backspace
32 disable it.
Sets the time the modem waits after it goes off-hook before it
begins to dial the telephone number.
Sets the time the modem waits for a carrier signal before
aborting a call. Also sets the wait-for-silence time for the @ dial
modifier.
Sets the length of a pause caused by a comma character in a
dialing command.
Sets ASCII code for remote configuration escape character.
S9=0 disables remote configuration.
Sets how long a carrier signal must be lost before the modem
disconnects.
Sets spacing and duration of dialing tones.
Sets the time the Callback Delay signal drops before going
high again. Used for some PBX and CBX phone systems. See
&C2 command.
0 disables, 1–255 enables V.34 modulation.
Sets the time the modem waits before it disconnects when no
data is sent or received. A value of zero disables the timer.

0 disables, 1 enables the V.25 data calling tone, which allows
remote data/fax/voice discrimination.
Specifies the action to take in the event of a negotiation failure
when error control is selected. (See S48.)
