MAIN FEATURES AND OPERATION

Part Edit Section

This section contains all the controls associated with configuring the indi-
vidual Parts when used in Performance Mode. In Program Mode, these
controls are still available for use, but behave as if only one Part is avail-
able - Part 1.
PART LEVEL Knob
Sets the currently selected Part(s) volume level. This allows the correct
balance between individual Parts in a Performance to be achieved. In
Program Mode, this knob will only affect Part 1.
Part EDIT Buttons
These four buttons determine which Part will be edited by the front panel
controls. In Program Mode, Part 1 is always selected for editing and can-
not be de-selected.
In Performance Mode, any of the four Parts can be selected for editing .
The status of the Part EDIT buttons determine which of the parts will play
when using the keyboard.
If a Performance is configured for a layered type sound (parts are set to
use the same MIDI channels), the keyboard will only play ALL the parts
whose MIDI channels match the channel used by the part that is currently
selected by the EDIT button. In this way the complete layered sound (that
may be a multiple of many parts) may be auditioned.
By switching on and off the parts (pressing the buttons below the green
LEDs) each individual part may by auditioned.
If a Performance is configured multi-timbrally (parts are set to use differ-
ent MIDI channels), the keyboard will only play the part currently selected
by the EDIT buttons. It would generally be undesirable to audition a col-
lection of parts that contain differnet sounds all at once.
Multi-timbral Performances are for use with an external sequencer such
that different sounds on different MIDI channels can be triggered through-
out a song.
Part MENU Button
Pressing this button accesses the Part Menu. The LED above the
MENUS button lights to confirm this. The parameters and features avail-
able in the Part Menu are detailed on page 55.
Part Active Buttons
These four buttons determine which Parts are in use.
In Program Mode, Part 1 is always active and cannot be de-activated. No
other part can be activated since a single sound only can be played.
In Performance Mode, any combination of the four Parts can be used by
a Performance. The LEDs above the Part Active buttons indicate which
Parts are currently active. An inactive Part will not respond to incoming
MIDI messages or can be played by the keyboard. An inactive Part can-
not be edited.
The Part Active buttons also provide a convenient way of 'muting'
individual Parts on the fly in a live performance situation. Inactive Parts
are in effect, 'muted' and do not sound or respond to MIDI messages.
Activating a 'muted' Part restores normal operation where it can resume
playing or responding to MIDI.
