Before you begin

Before you begin
This section describes tasks to complete before you start a new installation, including the following:
• Verify hardware requirements: see
• Establish server addresses: see
• Common configurations: see
• Prepare installation worksheets: see
• Verify browser requirements: see
Note Throughout this document, you are instructed to use the SCS console command line. If you are unfamiliar with accessing the
console command line, see Appendix A: Command line access on

Verify hardware requirements

Nortel has tested and certifies the following configurations to run the SCS.
Minimum hardware requirements
• Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 (2.13 GHz)
• 1 GB DDR2 RAM 667 MHz (to support up to 250 users) or 2 GB DDR2 RAM 667 MHz (to support up to 500 users)
• 80 GB hard disk
• For HA setup, two servers are required
Note The SCS runs on many different hardware variants, but Nortel supports only the above configuration.

Establish server addresses

This preparatory task is critical to the success of your installation due to the impact on functionality, and the steps involved to obtain the
sign-off and approval within an organization to make the necessary changes. Start this administrative task early. Select the fully
qualified host name and IP address for your SCS server.
A fully qualified host name is in the format
scs.example.com
scs2.example.edu
The recommended host name is
scs.<local domain>
Record your fully qualified host name and IP address in the Linux network settings worksheet on
