Backing up the current software images

Before performing a software upgrade, IBM strongly recommends backing up the
following current software images in the device's flash memory.
Syntax: cp <original-file-name> <backup-file-name>

Virtual interface module

The switches feature a virtual interface module. These commands open an rconsole
session with the virtual interface module in virtual slot 1, enter the Privileged EXEC
level of the interface module's CLI, and make a backup copy of the monitor file.
Entering the two exit commands returns you to the Privileged EXEC level of the
CLI.

Syntax: rconsole <slot-number>
The <slot-number> parameter specifies the chassis slot number of the virtual
interface module to which you want to open an rconsole session. For the B48C and
B50C switches, this should always be 1.

Upgrading the multi-service IronWare image

To upgrade the B48C and B50C Multi-Service IronWare image (primary or
secondary), you must perform the following steps:
1. Copy the new Multi-Service IronWare image from the TFTP server to the code
2. Verify that the new Multi-Service IronWare image has been successfully copied
unit.

Privileged EXEC level of the CLI:
v copy tftp flash <ip-addr> <image-name> primary | secondary
For information about the image name to specify, see Table 10 on page 45.
