Chapter 6
Using the Intelligent
Battery Backup Unit
This chapter explains how to monitor and maintain the intelligent Battery
Backup Unit (iBBU) for your ServeRAID-MR10is SAS/SATA Controller.
Most of the iBBU functions, such as battery recharging, occur
automatically. Click on the following links to view instructions on how to
use the iBBU:
Section 6.1, "Monitoring the iBBU with the MegaRAID Configuration
Utilities"
Section 6.2, "Replacing the Battery Backup Unit"
Section 6.3, "Transferring Cached Data from a Failed Controller"
Section 6.4, "Resolving a Configuration Mismatch"
You can monitor the battery status (temperature, voltage, and so on) in
®
these MegaRAID
WebBIOS Configuration Utility
MegaCLI (Command Line Interface)
MegaRAID Storage Manager (MSM)
The MegaRAID utilities display a counter showing the number of times
the battery pack on the iBBU has been recharged. When you install a
new iBBU, the battery recharge cycle counter for the iBBU is
automatically set to zero.
Note:
For optimal performance, replace the iBBU once a year.
This chapter describes only the iBBU-related features of the MegaRAID
utility programs. For complete information on these utilities, see the
ServeRAID-MR Software User's Guide, IBM Document Number
46M1381.
