Safety Systems
4.1
External Fire Extinguishers
The craft is supplied with two portable 2kg powder fire extinguishers. These are
held on a bracket in recessed mouldings on the front of each of the seating pods aft
of the helm and navigator seats. To remove an extinguisher from its stowage bracket,
pull the neck of the extinguisher towards you out of the bracket. To replace, insert the
base into the stowage bracket first and then relocate the neck of the extinguisher
into the bracket.
Each extinguisher has a pressure gauge; if the needle is in either red section, remove
and replace the fire extinguisher.
4.2
Engine compartment fire extinguisher
The engine compartment contains an automatic fire extinguisher. This will
activate in the event of a fire. No attempt must be made to access the compartment
until the fire is out. The extinguishers are secured to the inside of the engine housing
cover.
4.3
Self Righting
The craft is equipped with a manually activated self-righting system. This consists of a
stowed inflation bag mounted on top of the A-frame, a CO
activation system. There is also the backup of a second gas bottle and activation
system. The secondary system can be used in the unlikely situation that the first fails or
if the boat capsizes a second time.
Upon inversion of the craft the helmsman will fall out thus cutting the engines
via the safety lanyard. The engines will shut their air intakes automatically to avoid
water ingress. Once upside down, the crew should assemble at the rear of the craft
and stay together. One crewmember should pull the self-right release handle, which
will be clearly labelled on the transom and will be readable when the craft is
inverted. When released the crew should stay clear as the boat rights. Once righted
the crew should climb back into the craft.
