2 Safety

The alcohol distillation unit DE-1626 has the suitable measures for its use in laboratory.
However, working with it can be hazardous and the user must be informed of some of
those risks. In order to be respected, the risk of danger situations are remarked across
this manual.
2.1 Safety symbols
It identifies the risky and safety actions to be applied. The symbols make reference to
the paragraph marked with a grey line.
Warning
Warning of a dangerous operation.
Indicated instruction must be followed.
Hazard of electrical shock
Electric hazard for entering in areas marked with this signal, or for following the manual
instruction marked by this icon. Follow the instructions for the described operation.
Hazard of burns to be in contact with hot surfaces
Temperature in this area can exceed 60ºC. Use heat protected gloves for the described
action. Follow the instructions for the described operation.
Important information
• Important information to obtain good results or for an optimal operation of the equip-
ment.
• Important information to extend the life of the equipment or to avoid the degradation
of some of its components.
2.2 Risks which the operator is put under
The process of determination of Kjeldahl Nitrogen with the described equipment exposes
to the operator to the following situations of risk:
• Manipulation of glass parts.
• Possibility of touching parts to a temperature above 60ºC.
• Possible exhibition to irritating acid steam.
• Electrical risk.
2.3 Personnel training
This equipment must only be operated by personnel trained and suitable qualified to work
in a chemical laboratory and its common hazards.
This equipment must only be operated by personnel who have read and understood this
manual or have been qualified on its manipulation and operation.
2.4 Proper uses of the equipment
This equipment is for laboratory use, for sample distillation by steam pulling. Mainly in
Kjeldahl nitrogen analysis.
The improper use of this unit (not following manual instructions) can endanger the pro-
tection prepared by the equipment.
Do not use to distillate explosive or flammable substances.
This equipment its not designed and not manufactured to work in an explosive ambient
area.
2.5 Modifications
The operation modification or the manipulation of the safety systems unauthorized by
the manufacturer could expose the operator to hazards not indicated in this manual.
