Auger Bit Operation (Fig. A, I, J)

WARNING: Before using the tool, check that the side
handle is tightened securely.

WARNING: The side handle should always be used to
maintain control of the tool at all times.

WARNING: Always ensure the auger bit is secure
before starting the tool. A loose auger bit may eject
from tool causing possible personal injury.

WARNING: Keep the auger bit away from your body.
An accidental start‑up can cause injury.

WARNING: Call before you dig. Contact all utility
companies before using this tool in areas where you are
not certain there are no buried lines. Locations such as
along streets, sidewalks and building foundations may
have shallow buried lines.
1. Select the desired direction, forward or reverse, to match
the planned operation.
2. Before starting the tool, ensure you have a firm grip on
the main handle and side handle and the auger bit
pointed at a 90° angle above the working surface.
3. Switch the tool ON and allow the auger bit
full speed and then slowly lower it into the soil.
4. Always apply pressure in a straight line with the auger
bit

. Use enough pressure to keep the auger biting, but
do not push hard enough to stall the motor or deflect
the auger bit.
5. Hold tool firmly with both hands to control the twisting
action of the auger bit.
6. iF TOOl sTAlls, it is usually because it is being
overloaded. RElEAsE TRiggER sWiTCh iMMEDiATElY,
remove auger bit from the soil, and determine cause of
stalling. DO nOT CliCK TRiggER OFF AnD On in An
ATTEMPT TO sTART A sTAllED TOOl – This CAn
DAMAgE ThE TOOl.
7. Keep the motor running when pulling the auger bit back
out of a hole. This will help prevent jamming.
8. Relase the trigger switch  
starting a new hole.

Cleaning

WARNING: Blow dirt and dust out of all air vents with
clean, dry air at least once a week. To minimize the risk
of eye injury, always wear ANSI Z87.1 approved eye
protection when performing this procedure

WARNING: Remove accessories in order to wash them
to ensure the tool does not get exposed to water.

WARNING: Never use solvents or other harsh
chemicals for cleaning the non‑metallic parts of the
tool. These chemicals may weaken the plastic materials
used in these parts. Use a cloth dampened only with
water and mild soap. Never let any liquid get inside the
tool; never immerse any part of the tool into a liquid.
Accessories

WARNING: Since accessories, other than those
offered by CRAFTSMAN, have not been tested with
this product, use of such accessories with this product
could be hazardous. To reduce the risk of injury, only
CRAFTSMAN recommended accessories should be used
with this product.
Recommended accessories for use with your product are
available at extra cost from your local dealer or authorized
service center. If you need assistance in locating any

with grease. An accidental start‑up can cause injury.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal
injury, do not use a damaged VersaTrack™ hang hook
or VersaTrack™ Trackwall. A damaged VersaTrack™
hang hook or VersaTrack™ Trackwall will not support
the weight of the tool.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal
injury, ensure the screw holding the VersaTrack™ hang
hook is securely tightened.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal
injury, DO NOT suspend tool overhead or suspend
objects from the hang hook. ONLY suspend tool on the
VersaTrack™ Trackwall using the hang hook.

WARNING: The Versatrack™ integral hang hook is not
a belt hook.

WARNING: Ensure that the tool weight does not
exceed the maximum rated weight of 20 lb (9 kg) for
the selected VersaTrack™ hook.

WARNING: When hanging objects on a VersaTrack™
Trackwall rail, adequately space the tools in order to not
exceed 75 lb (35 kg) per linear foot.
iMPORTAnT: When attaching the VersaTrack™ hang hook,
use only the screw that is provided. Be sure to securely
tighten the screw. VersaTrack™ accessories mount compatible
tools securely to the VersaTrack™ Trackwall system.
1. Turn the tool off, remove the battery pack
and  accessories.

CAUTION: Any product with exposed cutting teeth
must have them covered securely if it is to be on
the VersaTrack™ Trackwall.
